What you'll do

• Design, implement, and maintain robust database systems that ensure high availability and performance across various applications.
• Monitor database performance metrics and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and optimize resource utilization.
• Collaborate with software engineers to develop database schemas and optimize queries for efficient data retrieval and storage.
• Implement automated monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify potential database issues before they impact users.
• Conduct regular database backups and disaster recovery drills to ensure data integrity and availability in case of failures.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to database architecture, processes, and best practices for team reference.
• Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning to accommodate growing data needs and ensure scalability.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to database management and reliability, recommending improvements as necessary.
• Assist in the migration of legacy databases to modern platforms, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
• Work closely with DevOps teams to integrate database solutions into CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and updates.
• Provide on-call support for database-related incidents, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal impact on operations.
• Mentor junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in database administration or reliability engineering, preferably in a cloud-based environment.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra is a plus.
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization techniques.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar for database performance analysis.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery and replication techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation tasks is desirable.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and their database services.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance standards relevant to database management.
• Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment is a plus.
