AI Governance Specialist

About the role

Prex is looking for an AI Governance Specialist to take ownership of the policies, processes, and oversight mechanisms that ensure artificial intelligence is developed and used responsibly within the organization. This role is foundational to building trust in AI systems and ensuring that machine learning applications meet both internal standards and external regulatory requirements. The specialist will partner with engineering, product, legal, and compliance teams to embed governance thinking into every stage of the AI lifecycle. The position is a full-time role based in Argentina.

What you'll do

• Own the creation and ongoing refinement of AI governance policies that set the standard for responsible machine learning use across the company.
• Perform detailed risk assessments on AI systems before they go into production, identifying ethical, legal, and operational concerns early in the development cycle.
• Partner with engineering and product teams to evaluate model documentation, verify alignment with governance standards, and flag areas that need remediation.
• Build and execute audit procedures for AI models, monitoring key performance indicators and documenting any deviations that trigger a governance review.
• Develop educational resources and deliver workshops that help employees across the organization understand AI ethics, responsible deployment practices, and governance requirements.
• Track emerging AI regulations and industry guidelines, providing timely guidance to leadership on how new rules may affect the company's AI portfolio.
• Define and maintain accountability structures that assign clear ownership and oversight duties for every AI model currently in production use.
• Work alongside legal and compliance professionals to confirm that all AI applications adhere to data protection laws and privacy regulations applicable in Argentina.
• Curate and update a centralized inventory of all AI models, capturing their intended purpose, associated risk level, and current governance review status.
• Prepare and present governance reports to senior leadership, highlighting compliance trends, risk exposures, and recommendations for policy improvements.
• Establish escalation pathways that allow teams to raise governance concerns and receive timely guidance from the specialist or senior stakeholders.
• Support the integration of governance checkpoints into existing software development and model deployment pipelines to ensure continuous compliance.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, law, or a related discipline from a recognized university or institution.
• A minimum of three years of professional experience in AI governance, ethics, compliance, or a closely aligned field.
• A solid understanding of machine learning pipelines and the specific risks that arise from automated decision-making in production environments.
• Working knowledge of international AI regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act, and an ability to interpret their implications for business operations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for explaining technical governance concepts to audiences without a technical background.
• A track record of effective collaboration with cross-functional groups that include engineers, product managers, legal professionals, and business stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the capacity to manage several governance workstreams at once under tight timelines.
• Professional fluency in both Spanish and English, enabling clear communication with diverse internal and external partners.

Nice to have

• Previous experience at a technology company or fast-growing startup where AI systems are deployed to a large user base.
• Hands-on familiarity with Python or SQL, allowing independent review of model outputs and generation of governance reports.
• A professional certification in AI ethics, data governance, or a closely related area of specialization.
• Demonstrated success in designing and implementing governance frameworks for organizations that were scaling their AI capabilities rapidly.

Practical notes

• This is a full-time position headquartered in Argentina, with the expectation of working from Prex offices or a designated local workspace.
• The AI Governance Specialist will report directly to the head of compliance or a designated executive sponsor within the Prex leadership team.
• The role requires regular participation in cross-functional meetings, governance review sessions, and periodic check-ins with engineering and product stakeholders.
