About the role
Olsson is on the lookout for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities Engineering and Design Team, with a primary focus on healthcare-related projects. What you'll do
- Lead the design and assessment of mechanical systems for complex healthcare facility projects, ensuring they meet the specific needs of the healthcare sector.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, applying advanced mechanical engineering principles to address unique challenges encountered in healthcare environments.
- Ensure that all mechanical designs align with project objectives and adhere to regulatory standards through rigorous quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Conduct thorough research to devise innovative design solutions that enhance patient care and improve operational efficiency within healthcare settings.
- Mentor and guide team members on effective mechanical design strategies to fulfill project specifications and client requirements.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate mechanical systems into overall project designs.
- Develop and establish standards and protocols for mechanical engineering practices within the team to ensure consistency and excellence.
- Participate in client meetings to discuss project progress, address concerns, and provide expert insights on mechanical design aspects.
- Review and approve design documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in mechanical engineering, particularly in healthcare, to inform design practices.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and methodologies within the organization.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals and presentations to secure new business opportunities.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is essential for this position.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in the design of healthcare facilities, is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proven history of leading complex mechanical design projects successfully.
- Relevant healthcare certifications such as ASHRAE Healthcare Facilities Design Professional (HFDP), ASSE 6060 Medical Gas Systems Designer, or ASSE 12080 Certified Legionella Water Safety & Management Specialist are highly desirable.
- Membership in a state or national chapter of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) or similar organizations is preferred.
- Experience with the development of National Codes/Standards and involvement in related committees is a plus.
- Additional certifications related to healthcare, such as Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) or Healthcare Physical Environment Worker, would be advantageous.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its application in mechanical design.
- Experience in energy modeling and sustainability practices within healthcare design.
- Knowledge of advanced HVAC systems and their integration into healthcare facilities.
Skills & tools
- In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering principles and practices relevant to healthcare design.
- Proficient in mechanical design software and tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard applications.
- Familiarity with healthcare facility design regulations and compliance requirements.
