Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the engineering and design efforts for transmission and distribution line projects, utilizing PLS-CADD modeling and analysis to optimize line layouts and ensure compliance with safety and industry standards.
- Develop detailed transmission line designs, including structure loading, sag-tension calculations, and clearance evaluations, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and reports, to maintain high-quality standards across projects.
- Serve as a technical mentor and resource for junior engineers and designers, providing guidance on best practices, software use, and engineering principles.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams such as civil, environmental, right-of-way, and substation groups to develop integrated project solutions that address all aspects of transmission and distribution projects.
- Engage directly with utility clients, project stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to understand project scope, establish technical requirements, and communicate progress effectively.
- Conduct field visits to assess site conditions, verify design assumptions, and support construction activities, ensuring that designs are feasible and practical in real-world conditions.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting activities to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of internal standards, processes, and best practices to improve efficiency and quality within the Transmission and Distribution team.
- Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes affecting transmission and distribution engineering to continuously enhance project outcomes.
- Support business development efforts by preparing technical proposals, presentations, and cost estimates for new projects.
- Assist in training and onboarding new team members, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Requirements
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to clients, team members, and stakeholders.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on building relationships and resolving issues effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in transmission and/or distribution line engineering, with a focus on high-voltage projects.
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with PLS-CADD software for line design, including familiarity with PLS POLE and PLS TOWER modules.
- Demonstrated experience in leading engineering projects, performing detailed calculations, and reviewing technical deliverables.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, with the ability to obtain licensure in the relevant state or region.
- Experience working directly with utility companies, contractors, and regulatory agencies, understanding industry standards and compliance requirements.
- Ability to interpret and apply industry codes, standards, and safety regulations relevant to transmission and distribution projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel as needed for site visits, client meetings, and project coordination.
Nice to have
- Experience with other design and analysis software related to transmission and distribution engineering.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NESC, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Prior experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers and technical staff.
- Familiarity with environmental and permitting processes related to transmission line projects.

The annual salary range for this position is estimated between $106,600 and $218,000 USD, depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Compensation packages may include performance-based bonuses, merit increases, and other incentives. This role is based on-site in a remote setting, with occasional travel required for site visits, client meetings, and project coordination.
