Mosaicbc is seeking a dedicated Settlement Worker to join our team in Burnaby, British Columbia. What you'll do

• Provide personalized settlement services to newcomers, including information on housing, employment, education, and healthcare.
• Conduct needs assessments to identify the specific challenges and barriers faced by clients in their settlement process.
• Develop and facilitate workshops and information sessions on various topics relevant to newcomers, such as cultural orientation and language support.
• Assist clients in completing necessary documentation for government services, including applications for permanent residency, citizenship, and social assistance.
• Collaborate with community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance service delivery and resource availability for newcomers.
• Offer one-on-one support to clients, helping them develop personalized settlement plans that align with their goals and aspirations.
• Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.
• Advocate for the needs and rights of newcomers within the community, raising awareness about the challenges they face.
• Stay informed about local resources, programs, and services available to newcomers, ensuring clients receive up-to-date information.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to settlement services.
• Provide crisis intervention and support to clients facing immediate challenges, connecting them with appropriate services as needed.
• Engage in outreach activities to promote settlement services and encourage participation among potential clients.

Requirements

• A degree or diploma in social work, community development, or a related field.
• A minimum of two years of experience working with immigrants and refugees in a settlement or community service capacity.
• Strong understanding of the settlement process and the challenges faced by newcomers in Canada.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically.
• Proficiency in at least one additional language besides English is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Familiarity with local community resources and services available to newcomers.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies affecting immigrants and refugees in Canada.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Nice to have

• Experience in program development and evaluation related to settlement services.
• Previous experience working in a multicultural environment.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and their application in settlement work.
• Familiarity with digital tools and platforms for client management and service delivery.
• Experience in public speaking or facilitating workshops and training sessions.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to navigate and utilize online resources effectively for client support and information dissemination.
• Competence in using case management software to track client progress and service delivery.

• This position is based in Burnaby, British Columbia, and may require occasional travel within the region to meet clients and attend community events.
