What you'll do
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients to identify their skills, interests, and barriers to employment, tailoring support to meet their unique needs.
- Develop and implement personalized employment action plans that align with clients' career goals and the demands of the local job market.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions focused on job search strategies, resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace skills.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers to understand their hiring needs and promote the benefits of hiring diverse candidates.
- Act as a liaison between job seekers and employers, matching candidates with suitable job opportunities and facilitating introductions.
- Provide ongoing support and follow-up with clients to monitor their progress and adjust action plans as necessary, ensuring they remain on track to achieve their employment goals.
- Collaborate with community organizations and service providers to enhance client resources and access to additional support services, such as skills training and financial assistance.
- Stay informed about labor market trends and employment resources to provide clients with up-to-date information and guidance.
- Document client interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies and funding requirements, ensuring accurate reporting and accountability.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the WorkBC Cloverdale team.
- Advocate for clients by addressing any barriers they may face in their job search, including issues related to discrimination, accessibility, and skills gaps.
- Engage in outreach activities to promote WorkBC services within the community, raising awareness about available resources and support for job seekers.
Requirements
- A degree or diploma in social work, human services, career development, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of experience in employment counseling, job development, or a similar role, preferably within a community service or non-profit environment.
- Strong understanding of labor market trends, employment services, and the challenges faced by job seekers in the current economy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to develop and facilitate engaging workshops and training sessions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in using technology and software applications relevant to employment services, such as case management systems and job search platforms.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle may be required for outreach activities.
- Knowledge of local community resources and services that support job seekers is an asset.
Nice to have
- Certification in career development or employment counseling, such as the Career Development Practitioner (CDP) designation.
- Experience working with marginalized populations, including immigrants, refugees, and individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with grant writing and reporting processes related to employment services funding.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly in languages commonly spoken in the Surrey area.
- Previous experience in marketing or business development to enhance employer engagement efforts.
