Senior Software Engineer

About the role

You will architect and ship the core systems that power the movement of value for millions of customers and hundreds of ecosystem partners on a global scale. This role owns the critical backend services that ensure fund transfers, tokenization, trading, and spend flows are executed with speed, accuracy, and security. You will partner closely with product and data teams to translate high-level business objectives into reliable, scalable software solutions that define the Moonpay experience. You will leverage AI tools as a core part of your daily workflow to automate repetitive tasks, accelerate development cycles, and focus on high-impact problem solving. You will be responsible for designing resilient systems that operate at peak performance across distributed environments and underpin regulatory compliance. You will drive the technical decisions that shape the infrastructure supporting fund, tokenize, trade, and spend offerings. You will mentor and elevate other engineers by sharing best practices and fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. You will own the full lifecycle of your code from initial design through deployment, monitoring, and iterative optimization in production.

What you'll do

Design and maintain the backend services that power the fund, tokenize, trade, and spend products while ensuring high availability and low latency for critical transaction flows.

Implement secure and scalable integration layers that connect with external financial institutions, payment rails, and crypto exchanges to enable seamless value movement.

Collaborate with product managers to refine requirements and translate business objectives into technical specifications that guide efficient implementation.

Leverage AI powered tools to automate testing, code review, and documentation tasks, increasing development speed while maintaining high quality standards.

Develop monitoring and alerting solutions that provide deep visibility into system performance, enabling rapid detection and resolution of production incidents.

Optimize database schemas, queries, and caching strategies to support high throughput operations while maintaining data integrity and consistency.

Partner with data teams to implement analytics pipelines that provide actionable insights into user behavior, transaction patterns, and system health.

Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions that impact the long term scalability and reliability of core platforms.

Write clean, testable, and maintainable code that adheres to internal standards and supports rapid iteration across multiple engineering teams.

Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews, technical guidance, and constructive feedback that helps the team grow and improve.

Participate in on call rotations to support production deployments and respond to urgent issues that affect customers and partners globally.

Champion best practices for security, compliance, and operational excellence across all services related to fund, tokenize, trade, and spend capabilities.

Drive initiatives to reduce technical debt by refactoring legacy components and modernizing critical services to improve performance and developer experience.

Contribute to open source strategies where appropriate, ensuring that internal innovations are shared effectively with the broader ecosystem.

Requirements

Must be authorized to work in the United States and require sponsorship is not available at this time.

You must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

You must possess demonstrated experience building backend systems using languages such as Java, Python, Go, or similar statically typed or dynamic languages.

You must have a strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including concurrency, consistency, and fault tolerance in large scale environments.

You must be proficient with relational and NoSQL databases and have hands on experience optimizing queries, indexing, and data modeling strategies.

You must have experience integrating with third party APIs and protocols, including financial and crypto related services in production environments.

You must have a solid grasp of security best practices, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure handling of sensitive data.

You must be comfortable working in fast paced, high accountability environments where ownership and results are valued over process.

You must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across distributed teams.

You must be comfortable using AI tools in your daily workflow to assist with coding, debugging, and knowledge work.

You must be able to manage multiple priorities and deliver high quality software under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.

You must have a track record of writing clean, maintainable code that is easy for others to understand and extend.

You must be willing to participate in on call rotations and support production issues as they arise across different time zones.

You must be able to interpret technical requirements and translate them into robust software solutions with minimal supervision.

You must be legally authorized to work in the country where the role is based without requiring company sponsorship at this time.

Nice to have

Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, and infrastructure as code is preferred.

Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks in financial services or crypto is a plus.

Experience contributing to open source projects or building public facing developer tools.
