Director, Data & Analytics
Job description
About the role
This role is built for a builder who measures success in shipped outcomes rather than slide decks. You will own the end-to-end strategy and execution of Product Data & Analytics across the entire organization, setting the vision that aligns with the CTO and Ramps leadership. In this capacity, you define not just what gets measured, but how the function operates, how quality is enforced, and how insights flow to every critical decision. You will lead the design of data products that allow MoonPay to move faster, test bolder ideas, and understand true impact with clarity. Expect to work alongside the brightest minds in data science, engineering, and analytics to create a cohesive operating system for evidence-based decisions. You will shape the roadmap for experimentation and dashboards that directly influence which products succeed and which are iterated or retired. If you are motivated by hard problems, real ownership, and the leverage that comes with executive trust, this is the role where you will build a legacy.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define the end-to-end product data and analytics roadmap, aligning measurement strategy with MoonPay's core offerings of fund, tokenize, trade, and spend.
Recruit, hire, and lead a high-performing team spanning Data Science, Analytics Engineering, and Data Analysts, balancing generalists and specialists.
Design the organizational structure, leveling frameworks, and career paths that allow each discipline to scale efficiently as the business grows.
Establish rigorous standards for data modeling, experimentation methodology, and dashboarding to replace ad hoc analysis with trusted, reusable data products.
Partner directly with Product and Engineering leadership to embed analytics and experimentation into the product development lifecycle from discovery through post-launch measurement.
Own the metrics that define product health, ensuring that data quality, reliability, and interpretability remain exceptional across the organization.
Represent data and analytics requirements in cross-functional planning with Product, Engineering, Finance, Operations, and Compliance to ensure alignment.
Mentor senior ICs and team leads, developing a strong bench of future managers and specialists within the function.
Implement self-serve analytics infrastructure and governance so that teams across MoonPay can answer their own questions quickly and accurately.
Report on team health, hiring progress, and the tangible business impact of analytics to senior leadership to justify continued investment.
Champion the adoption of AI tools to automate manual data tasks, enabling the team to focus on high-value analysis and strategic insight.
Drive the design of product metrics that reflect the realities of crypto, stablecoins, and tokenized assets, capturing value movement accurately.
Ensure that experimentation practices are robust, statistically sound, and capable of supporting rapid innovation in a regulated environment.
Build a data culture where evidence-based decisions are the default and where insights are accessible to both humans and agents.
Requirements
10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or analytics engineering, with significant time in a management or leadership role shaping direction.
A demonstrable track record of building and scaling a data or analytics function from the ground up or through a high-growth phase, including hands-on hiring across multiple disciplines such as Data Science, Analytics Engineering, and Data Analysis.
Deep experience partnering with Product and Engineering teams to embed analytics and experimentation into how products are built and iterated upon.
Strong technical fluency across the disciplines you will manage, allowing you to evaluate tradeoffs in data modeling, pipeline design, and experimentation design without needing to write production code daily.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to communicate clearly and persuasively to executives, engineers, and cross-functional partners in fast-paced environments.
Experience working within fintech, payments, or crypto is a strong prerequisite, given the complexity of regulated value movement.
An active interest in cryptocurrency and Web3, and comfort operating in a fast-moving, less-defined environment where ambiguity is常态.
Demonstrated ability to establish quality bars for data, analytics, and experimentation, ensuring that insights are reliable, consistent, and actionable.
History of defining career paths and leveling frameworks that enable individuals to grow while maintaining a high-performing, cohesive team.
Comfort with AI as a default operating mode, using intelligent tools to automate manual work and augment analytical capacity.
Nice to have
Prior experience scaling analytics organizations in hypergrowth startups or public companies.
Background implementing data and experimentation practices in regulated financial services or payments.
