About the role
Mixpanel is seeking a leader to oversee our Internal Analysis team, reporting directly to the executive team. This role focuses on driving a metrics-driven culture by establishing KPIs, managing data strategy, and ensuring analytics serve as a strategic partner across the organization. The successful candidate will own the definition and execution of internal analytics, shaping how the company measures success and learns from its operations. They will be responsible for building a high-performing team of Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists, fostering an environment of rigorous inquiry and data-backed decision-making. This position requires a player-coach mindset, blending deep technical expertise with the ability to set the analytical vision for the company. The role is critical in integrating AI capabilities into internal workflows and evaluating AI features for the Mixpanel product, such as forecasting and anomaly detection. The Director will establish and maintain the highest standards for pipeline reliability, SQL quality, dbt practices, and statistical rigor. This is an opportunity to define the analytics function and have a direct impact on the strategic direction of the entire organization.

What you'll do
- Manage and mentor a team of Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists, providing guidance, feedback, and career development.
- Define and implement company-wide KPIs and operating rhythms to ensure data-informed decision-making at all levels.
- Oversee the end-to-end data lifecycle, including ingestion, modeling via medallion architecture on BigQuery, and the creation of reporting artifacts.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, CS, and Finance leadership to translate complex business questions into robust analytical approaches.
- Integrate AI capabilities into internal workflows and evaluate AI features for the Mixpanel product, such as forecasting and anomaly detection, to enhance analytical productivity.
- Maintain high standards for pipeline reliability, SQL, dbt practices, and statistical rigor to ensure the integrity and trustworthiness of data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize analytical projects and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Develop and govern data models and metrics definitions to create a single source of truth for the organization.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in data visualization, storytelling, and communication to make insights accessible to non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to the development of the internal data strategy and roadmap, ensuring scalability and adaptability to future needs.
- Lead post-mortem analyses on key business outcomes to identify root causes and actionable learnings.
- Act as a subject matter expert on analytics methodology and tools, setting the standard for the team and the broader company.
- Evaluate new technologies and methodologies to continuously improve the analytical capabilities and efficiency of the team.
- Serve as a key representative of the Internal Analysis function in company-wide meetings and strategic discussions.
Requirements
- Progressive experience in data and analytics within a B2B SaaS environment, with a deep understanding of the unique metrics and challenges.
- Minimum of 3 years of people management experience, ideally leading both Analytics Engineering and Data Science functions concurrently.
- Proficiency with the modern data stack, specifically BigQuery, dbt, Fivetran, and Hex, and the ability to leverage them to build scalable solutions.
- Strong technical background in pipeline orchestration, SQL, Python, statistical modeling, experimentation, and forecasting to guide technical initiatives.
- Proven track record of driving organizational change and influencing cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
- Ability to act as a player-coach who can provide technical guidance while maintaining a high-level strategic focus and business acumen.
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and ensuring data quality and reliability.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, grow, and retain a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- Experience using Mixpanel or competing product analytics tools like Amplitude, Heap, or Pendo.
- Familiarity with A/B testing programs and experimentation platforms.
- Background in PLG or hybrid go-to-market motions.
- Interest in representing the team as a public-facing voice in the analytics community.
