About the role

A Teledata Lineman is responsible for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications lines and cable suspended between poles. What you'll do

Perform detailed inspection of existing telecommunication lines and poles to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.

Install new low voltage telecommunication systems, including fiberoptic and coaxial cable, ensuring proper alignment and secure mounting.

Dig and set poles according to engineering plans, verifying soil conditions and load requirements for long-term stability.

Pull, splice, and terminate fiberoptic and copper cable using industry-standard tools and techniques to maintain signal integrity.

Operate heavy equipment such as trenchers and aerial lifts safely and efficiently to prepare sites for cable installation.

Test completed telecommunication circuits using specialized meters to verify functionality and troubleshoot performance issues.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align installation schedules and resolve obstacles related to site access or utility conflicts.

Implement conduit and duct bank systems that protect cables from environmental damage and future physical stress.

Document all work activities, material usage, and equipment checks to maintain accurate project records for compliance and billing.

Adhere to project timelines and quality standards while demonstrating adaptability to evolving technologies and field conditions.

Follow all company procedures and regulatory requirements to ensure a zero-incident work environment for yourself and your crew.

Utilize mapping and diagnostic tools to trace cable routes and identify faults quickly during maintenance operations.

Assist in training newer team members on safe practices, proper tool handling, and cable installation best practices.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by sharing feedback on tools, techniques, and workflow efficiencies.

Maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition to support daily operational readiness.

Requirements

Must possess 1-3 years of related experience and/or training in telecommunications or line work.

Be capable of navigating, running, and operating various pieces of heavy equipment used in cable installation.

Demonstrate reliability, knowledge, and accountability in all assigned tasks and team interactions.

Willingness to work under a union collective bargaining agreement is mandatory for employment.

Hold a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles you may be driving and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License if required by the scope of assigned duties.

Be prepared to travel within the State of Wisconsin as required by project assignments.

Pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks as part of the hiring process.

Meet all physical demands of the role, including lifting, climbing, and working in varying weather conditions.

Comply with all safety protocols, including fall protection and personal protective equipment requirements.

Read and interpret technical drawings, cable schematics, and installation manuals accurately.

Nice to have

Commercial Driver's License is desired for positions requiring independent vehicle operation.

Experience with fiberoptic cable testing and fusion splicing is preferred.
