You own the strategic direction of regional estimating efforts and supervise a team of estimators to ensure consistent, high-quality bid delivery. You evaluate bid specifications and drawings with rigorous attention to detail to confirm all project requirements are understood before pricing. You aggressively coordinate with subcontractors to secure timely bids and validate that submissions meet our standards for accuracy and completeness. You collaborate closely with Project Management teams to align bids with budgets and to close the business loop on every opportunity. You proactively communicate bid status and emerging risks to internal stakeholders while fostering strong relationships with clients and trade partners. You leverage your expertise to turn complex construction ideas into reliable outcomes that improve lives and advance the project's positive impact.
What you'll do
Analyze bid documents and drawings to identify scope gaps, constructability issues, and potential cost drivers for utility and infrastructure projects.
Supervise and assign bids to regional estimating staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and quality checks to elevate team performance.
Develop detailed takeoffs and quantity analyses to ensure pricing accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
Coordinate closely with subcontractors to confirm bid responsiveness, resolve questions, and drive bid receipt within established timelines.
Perform risk assessments and develop bid strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability for infrastructure solutions.
Collaborate with Project Management and Operations teams to validate budgets, address bid queries, and support contract execution.
Monitor industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to incorporate current market data into future estimates.
Utilize estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite to build robust bid packages, track bid histories, and manage documentation.
Maintain strict adherence to corporate standards, safety considerations, and environmental responsibilities in every bid process.
Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposal reviews, client meetings, and solution design discussions.
Work independently to meet tight deadlines while producing highly accurate, defensible, and competitive bids.
Serve as a key technical resource for estimators, responding to inquiries and reinforcing best practices across the estimating group.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement by documenting lessons learned and sharing best practices across projects and teams.
Support cross-functional initiatives that enhance estimating accuracy, streamline workflows, and improve project outcomes.
Champion data integrity, clear documentation, and transparent communication throughout the bid lifecycle.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent degree from a four-year college or university.
Bring experience in utility construction estimating to evaluate complex infrastructure scopes and requirements.
Possess a minimum of at least 5 years of substation estimating experience in a relevant market.
Maintain a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles that may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team.
Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to prepare detailed estimates, reports, and presentations.
Commit to being onsite at the Hubbard Data Center on a Monday through Friday schedule each week.
