About the role
You will own the technical narrative of enterprise deals across the West Coast, becoming the definitive voice for Meter with network engineers and technical decision makers. You will architect and run technical discovery sessions that uncover deeply rooted workflow problems and quantify the business impact of switching from legacy infrastructure. You will design and deliver compelling, zero-jargon demonstrations that translate complex networking concepts into clear, memorable stories for diverse stakeholders. You will collaborate directly with Product and Hardware teams to ensure every customer requirement is captured, prioritized, and addressed in the roadmap. You will build reusable sales assets that codify best practices and standardize how Meter solves complex enterprise networking challenges. You will mentor junior Sales Engineers, elevating the entire teams ability to handle sophisticated technical objections. You will act as a trusted advisor, guiding strategic accounts through multi-year transformation initiatives that modernize their campus and WAN.

What you'll do
- Lead technical discovery calls that expose the hidden costs and limitations of legacy network vendors.
- Deliver world-class technical demonstrations that secure buy-in from IT directors, network engineers, and executive sponsors.
- Architect end-to-end solutions that remove deployment obstacles and accelerate enterprise purchasing decisions.
- Partner with Account Executives to build urgent, data-driven business cases that move multi-million dollar deals forward.
- Create structured playbooks for complex enterprise use cases, including EVPN-VXLAN and 802.1X wired wireless integration.
- Standardize core documentation so that critical networking knowledge is accessible, consistent, and reusable.
- Translate real-world deployment feedback into precise product requirements for the Hardware and Product teams.
- Own specific vertical narratives, developing deep expertise in industries where Meter solutions provide maximum advantage.
- Mentor new Sales Engineers, defining onboarding content and best practices that shorten ramp time.
- Contribute directly to revenue targets by designing proposals that win against entrenched incumbent vendors.
- Build reference architectures that de-risk technical decisions for cautious enterprise procurement teams.
- Run workshops that align internal stakeholders, ensuring solutions align with both technical and financial criteria.
- Maintain a rigorous pipeline of technical engagements, ensuring timely follow-up and clear next steps.
- Document failure modes and mitigation strategies, turning past mistakes into future competitive advantages.
- Represent Meter in technical forums and industry discussions that shape the future of enterprise networking.
Requirements
- You hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- You possess expert level knowledge of TCP/IP, including deep familiarity with routing protocols, subnetting, and packet analysis.
- You have comprehensive experience with 802.11ax and 802.11be wireless standards, radio frequency planning, and wireless troubleshooting.
- You understand transport layer security (TLS) and its implications for encrypted traffic inspection and zero trust architectures.
- You have hands on experience with DHCP, DNS, and NAT behavior in large scale enterprise environments.
- You are fluent in 802.1X port based network access control and NAC workflows.
- You have designed and implemented VPN solutions, including site to site and remote access architectures.
- You understand SD-WAN concepts, including overlay networks, path selection, and performance optimization.
- You have working knowledge of intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and their role in enterprise security.
- You are experienced with multicast protocols, use cases, and the challenges they present in modern networks.
- You understand OpenFlow and the fundamentals of software defined networking (SDN) and its operational benefits.
- You have experience with network telemetry, including NetFlow, IPFIX, and sFlow for performance analysis.
- You are comfortable reading and interpreting network packet captures to diagnose complex issues.
- You hold professional certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, JNCIS, or equivalent industry credentials.
Nice to have
- Prior experience selling networking solutions into enterprise data center or campus environments.
- Background in carrier or service provider network architectures and operations.
- Familiarity with security stack integration including firewalls, SIEM, and SOAR platforms.
- Experience with cloud managed networking platforms and intent based networking models.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, or ISO 27001 relevant to networked systems.
- Experience mentoring or leading junior technical sales engineers in a high growth organization.
Practical notes
This role is based in San Francisco and requires full time onsite presence. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship at this time. No relocation or visa sponsorship is available for this position. The engagement is full time, and the schedule aligns with standard business hours, with occasional evenings and weekends required to support critical customer deployments and time sensitive sales cycles.
