What you'll do
- Assist in the evaluation and analysis of energy systems, including HVAC, lighting, and renewable energy technologies, to identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop energy audits and assessments for various facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Support the design and implementation of energy efficiency projects, including monitoring and reporting on project performance metrics.
- Conduct research on emerging energy technologies and trends to inform project development and strategic planning.
- Participate in client meetings to present findings and recommendations, ensuring clear communication of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Utilize energy modeling software to simulate energy consumption and assess the impact of proposed energy efficiency measures.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation for project proposals, including cost-benefit analyses and potential energy savings.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and funding proposals to support energy efficiency initiatives.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, contractors, and facility managers, to ensure successful project execution.
- Stay updated on local, state, and federal energy regulations and incentives that may impact project development.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials and workshops aimed at promoting energy efficiency practices within the community.
- Engage in continuous professional development through training and certification opportunities in energy management and engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in energy engineering or a related discipline, including internships or co-op positions.
- Familiarity with energy modeling software such as EnergyPlus, eQuest, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Understanding of energy efficiency principles, renewable energy technologies, and sustainability practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for site assessments and client meetings.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or similar credentials is a plus.
- Experience with building automation systems and energy management systems.
- Knowledge of LEED certification processes and energy efficiency standards.
- Familiarity with local energy efficiency programs and incentives in New Jersey.
