What you'll do

• Design and oversee the installation of outside plant facilities, including fiber optic and copper networks, ensuring compliance with industry standards and local regulations.
• Conduct site surveys to assess existing infrastructure and determine the best approach for new installations or upgrades.
• Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to develop project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations and analyses to optimize network performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to outside plant facilities, coordinating with field technicians and other stakeholders as necessary.
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of designs, schematics, and project progress reports.
• Ensure that all work is completed safely and in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend improvements and innovations in our outside plant operations.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and field personnel, fostering a collaborative and educational work environment.
• Participate in regular meetings with cross-functional teams to discuss project updates, challenges, and solutions.
• Assist in the development of training materials and programs for staff related to outside plant engineering best practices.
• Engage with vendors and contractors to evaluate new products and services that could enhance our outside plant capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in outside plant engineering or a similar role within the telecommunications industry.
• Proficiency in design software and tools relevant to outside plant engineering, such as AutoCAD or similar applications.
• Strong understanding of fiber optics, copper cabling, and other telecommunications technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as required.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
• Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and mapping software.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to telecommunications infrastructure.
• Previous experience in managing projects from conception to completion.
• Familiarity with construction practices and safety standards in the telecommunications industry.
