Maggie™ Court Reporter
Job Description
Magna Legal Services is a trusted nationwide partner to law firms, corporations, insurance carriers, and government agencies, delivering comprehensive legal support at every stage of a case. From court reporting and record retrieval to jury consulting, investigations, litigation graphics, and language services, we help our clients navigate complex legal challenges with confidence. Our reputation is built on the expertise, dedication, and professionalism of our team, and we're proud to foster a culture where talented people can do meaningful work and grow their careers.
The Maggie™ Court Reporter position is a salaried, benefits-eligible staff role within our organization, distinct from independent contractor positions. Successful candidates will join our team and contribute to the critical process of creating official legal records. This role provides a defined career path with structured advancement. After completing our in-house training program, reporters enter a tiered system offering increased responsibility, complexity, and compensation based on performance and experience. Travel is an essential component of this position, with the requirement to work remotely while traveling up to 25% of the time across specific regions.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Maggie™ Court Reporter is to create the official written record of legal proceedings, a task that directly influences case outcomes. Each assignment presents unique challenges and participants, ensuring the work remains engaging and demanding. Reporters utilize proprietary AI-assisted court reporting software to capture spoken testimony in real time, whether working remotely or present in a courtroom or deposition suite.
A core duty involves preparing the environment for testimony by setting up digital reporting equipment and software configurations prior to the start of a session. During proceedings, the reporter must maintain exceptional focus to accurately transcribe dialogue at real-time speeds. This requires a high level of concentration and technical proficiency. Following each session, the reporter organizes the transcript, ensuring strict chronological order and clarity for attorney review. This includes preparing and shipping final records that adhere to strict quality standards and client-imposed deadlines.
Coordination is a central function of this role. Reporters work closely with Magna Legal Services operations teams to schedule complex hearings and depositions across multiple venues, including remote and in-person locations. They integrate seamlessly with client case management workflows to ensure efficient delivery of finalized transcripts. As they gain experience, reporters refine their skills through structured training and performance evaluations, advancing through defined Tier Levels 1, 2, and
3. Advancement is contingent upon successfully handling more intricate cases and demonstrating increased responsibility.
Requirements
Candidates for the Maggie™ Court Reporter position must meet specific criteria to ensure success in this demanding role. A high school diploma or equivalent credential is mandatory. Reliable internet connectivity and a dedicated, quiet workspace are essential for effective remote work. Prior to being scheduled for independent cases, completion of the company's comprehensive internal certification program is required.
The position requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time within the designated regions, including Philadelphia, Delaware County, Reading, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as dictated by case needs. Exceptional typing speed is necessary to keep pace with real-time speech without introducing delays. A strong command of English grammar and legal terminology is non-negotiable for producing accurate and professional transcripts. Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding all client information is a strict requirement. Candidates must also be prepared to pass background checks where mandated by law or client specifications.
Compensation and Benefits
This full-time position offers a competitive annual salary of $65,000. As a staff employee, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which may include health insurance, paid time off, and retirement planning options, subject to eligibility requirements.
Career Advancement
The Maggie™ Court Reporter track is designed for professional growth. New hires begin by mastering foundational skills. Through demonstrated proficiency and successful completion of evaluations, reporters progress through Tier Levels. Each level brings access to more complex and significant legal matters, directly correlating with increased compensation and potential bonus eligibility.
