What you'll do
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
- Conduct regular audits of financial processes and controls, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare and file various tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings, presenting findings to senior management.
- Liaise with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing any inquiries.
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure proper documentation for all accounting activities.
- Support the implementation of new accounting software or systems, ensuring a smooth transition and training for staff.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in accounting regulations, proactively adjusting practices to remain compliant.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate setting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar platforms) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience with tax compliance and preparation is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
