About the role

Lanes Group is seeking a skilled Legal Counsel specializing in Commercial Contracts and Disputes to join our dynamic legal team in Leeds, West Yorkshire. In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on a range of commercial agreements and resolving disputes that may arise in the course of business operations. What you'll do

Provide legal support on a variety of commercial contracts, including but not limited to supply agreements, service contracts, and partnership agreements.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to ensure they meet legal standards and protect the interests of Lanes Group.
Advise internal stakeholders on legal implications of contractual obligations and potential risks associated with agreements.
Manage disputes related to commercial contracts, including pre-litigation negotiations and settlement discussions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, finance, and operations, to ensure alignment on contractual terms and compliance.
Conduct legal research to stay updated on relevant laws and regulations that may impact commercial contracts and disputes.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to streamline contract management processes within the organization.
Provide training and guidance to staff on legal best practices in contract negotiation and dispute resolution.
Assist in the preparation of legal documents and correspondence related to disputes and contractual matters.
Monitor and report on the status of ongoing disputes and contract negotiations to senior management.
Participate in strategic planning sessions to identify legal risks and opportunities associated with business initiatives.
Foster strong relationships with external legal counsel and other advisors as needed for specialized legal issues.

Requirements

A qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial law, particularly in contract management and dispute resolution.
Strong understanding of contract law and the ability to interpret complex legal documents.
Proven experience in negotiating and drafting a wide range of commercial contracts.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively to non-legal stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Proficiency in legal research tools and contract management software.
A proactive approach to identifying potential legal issues and providing practical solutions.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice to have

Experience in the construction or infrastructure sectors would be advantageous.
Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation and arbitration.
Previous in-house legal experience is a plus.
A strong network of contacts within the legal community.
Additional qualifications or certifications in contract management or dispute resolution.

Skills & tools

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research databases.
Familiarity with contract management software and tools for tracking and managing legal documents.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to advocate effectively for the company's interests.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.

Practical notes

This role is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and may require occasional travel for meetings or negotiations.
The successful candidate will be expected to work full-time, with flexibility in hours as needed to meet business demands.
