What you'll do
Develop and maintain production grade web applications using Java and Spring Boot in collaboration with a world class engineering team.
Write clean, maintainable, testable, and high performance code that meets strict quality standards for reliability and scalability.
Participate in rigorous code reviews and perform extensive testing including unit, integration, and end to end validation to ensure delivery of exceptional software.
Research emerging technology stacks, tools, and best practices, and clearly share findings and recommendations with cross functional team members.
Communicate technical concepts, project status, and risks effectively and clearly with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers on a daily basis.
Design and implement robust APIs and services that power complex consumer and enterprise digital products used at massive scale.
Collaborate with front end developers to integrate UI components and ensure seamless user experiences using modern JavaScript frameworks.
Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes quickly to maintain high availability for critical applications.
Contribute to the improvement of software development workflows, automation, and documentation within the engineering organization.
Champion quality practices by writing and maintaining comprehensive tests, improving deployment pipelines, and promoting maintainable architectures.
Explore and prototype new ideas, translating ambiguous requirements into technical solutions that drive business impact.
Mentor and support junior team members by sharing knowledge, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Requirements
Candidates must bring 1-3 years of professional experience building and delivering modern production-grade web applications within a team environment.
You must demonstrate very strong Java programming skills, with hands on experience using Spring Boot or Spring Cloud in real projects.
Front end JavaScript framework experience is required using React, Angular, or similar modern libraries.
A deep understanding of the components that form a modern web application is essential, including APIs, templating, routing, data storage, design patterns, optimization, caching, and security.
Fundamental knowledge of core web principles such as HTTP, the Document Object Model, SSL, and web servers is mandatory.
Fluency with relational databases is required, and experience with NoSQL databases is also considered a strong asset.
Great interpersonal skills are necessary as the role involves close collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams on a daily basis.
A proactive personality and a demonstrated desire to deliver the highest quality work are essential for success in this position.
A genuine passion for improving software development workflows, processes, and engineering practices is expected from all team members.
Nice to have
Prior experience working with content management systems such as Wordpress, AEM, or Sitefinity is viewed favorably.
Hands on experience within cloud environments including AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure is preferred.
Experience with GraphQL, ElasticSearch, Serverless architectures, or Next.js is considered a bonus.
Practical notes
This position is a hybrid role indicated by #LI-Hybrid, requiring a mix of remote and in office work.
Work hours are full-time, and the engagement is permanent.
The role is based in Toronto, and while remote flexibility is provided, occasional in office presence is expected.
