Senior Software Engineer
Job description
Senior Software Engineer at Hinge Health.
About the role
This role sits within the Growth Data Platform team where you will own the decision engine that powers Hinge Health's growth initiatives. You will design and implement the data pipelines and event streams that feed our intelligence layer and directly shape member journeys. From the first marketing touchpoint to personalized Daily Streak notifications, your work will ensure the right engagement reaches the right member at the right time. You will act as a maintainer of key repositories while breaking down complex growth problems into reliable, predictable deliverables. Your responsibilities will include architecting AI-powered clinical agents and integrating rigorous observability to maintain quality in healthcare contexts.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and deliver large-scale projects that introduce new growth product capabilities while maintaining critical code repositories.
- Decompose complex business requirements into manageable tasks, ensuring predictable delivery and driving root cause analysis for production incidents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to roadmap and execute ambitious technical strategies, balancing immediate business needs against long-term platform integrity.
- Mentor junior engineers through thoughtful code reviews and real-time pairing, fostering a culture of quality and shared learning.
- Design and build AI-powered clinical agents using LangGraph.js, orchestrating multi-node StateGraphs for context gathering, LLM reasoning, and action execution within a shared NestJS service.
- Integrate LangSmith to establish end-to-end AI observability, including prompt versioning, per-node tracing, evaluation pipelines with golden datasets, and CI-gated quality gates.
- Develop agentic workflows that leverage LLMs such as Claude Sonnet via AWS Bedrock, ensuring robust integration and scalable execution.
- Contribute to the Member-Centric Knowledge Graph and RAG-based retrieval systems, providing clinical context and causal evidence that power intelligent decision-making.
- Proactively improve the maintainability, availability, and performance of team features, shaping the overall architecture and developer tooling.
- Translate technical concepts into clear narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences, documenting solutions for future reference and compliance.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Bring a minimum of 3-4 years of full-time professional software development experience, excluding internships.
- Demonstrate at least 3 years of hands-on experience with Node JS and Typescript across multiple projects.
- Show prior experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor in your daily workflow.
- Have a record of delivering large software projects or features into production environments with measurable impact.
- Possess 1+ years of practical experience building applications with LLMs, including prompt engineering, model integration via providers like OpenAI or Anthropic, and evaluating output quality.
- Be fluent with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain to build stateful, multi-step workflows.
- Have experience with platforms like LangSmith for tracing, prompt management, and regression testing of LLM-powered features.
Nice to have
- Accumulate 5 or more years of full-time professional software development experience beyond internships.
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree or a Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Apply AI technologies to assist with software design and coding tasks, such as advanced code suggestions or architectural support.
- Mentor or onboard junior engineers, guiding them through technical challenges and growth opportunities.
- Understand distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and scalable architectures within modern SaaS environments.
- Implement feature-flag-gated deployments for growth infrastructure, enabling safe rollout of new event handling and email delivery logic without disrupting existing member journeys.
- Grasp responsible AI practices, including handling of PHI/PII, establishing guardrails, and validating outputs in regulated healthcare settings.
- Write ML model prediction outputs into the Customer Data Platform via Segment custom events, linking data science model scoring to member-facing campaign activation in Iterable.
