Exploitation Specialist/Imagery Scientist (SAR)
Job description
Exploitation Specialist / Imagery Scientist (SAR)
About the Role
Grvty is seeking a motivated and experienced imagery scientist focused on geospatial and imagery expertise and quantitative analysis. The primary responsibility is to improve data curation and development in support of Machine Learning algorithm testing and evaluation. The ideal candidate brings a passion for advanced scientific problem solving, imagery exploitation, and operational intelligence support. This role drives solutions informed by specific phenomenology limitations and advantages of the sensors and platforms under consideration.
You will define the pipeline for geospatial intelligence, owning sensor data from intake to operational delivery. Solving for SAR phenomenology limits, you will shape algorithms and testing that move models toward production. Your work will transform complex metadata into durable standards for collection and labeling teams.
Key Facts
Location options include Falls Church, Virginia, United States, and St. Louis, Missouri, United States. The engagement is Full-time. Compensation ranges from $160,000 to $190,000 USD.
What You Will Do
You will catalog incoming SAR datasets to verify format, structure, and conformance before ingestion. You will assess potential differences between new sensor characteristics and currently utilized platforms, documenting impacts on products. You will ascertain how to acquire new data, evaluating potential latency, data formats, and security domains.
You will determine how to pre-process and standardize data to match existing data standards or transform it into a usable state for labeling and model testing purposes. This work may include converting between file format types or tiling full-size images into specified sizes or geospatial bounds. You will coordinate with engineers to streamline ETL and API changes that support reliable data movement within the ingestion pipeline.
You will guide acquisition planning by clarifying latency, access rules, and domain constraints for new sources. You will review metadata and quality metrics to ensure imagery meets standards for exploitation and modeling. You will partner with algorithms and testing teams to validate SAR products under real mission conditions.
What You Must Have
You must hold an active TS/SCI Clearance with the ability to obtain a CI/Polygraph. You must have four or more years of experience as a SAR expert with understanding of collection, phenomenology, image formation process, and exploitation products. You must exhibit experience with SAR imagery quality metrics and sensor metadata describing impacts of geometry on phenomenology.
You must demonstrate experience exploiting SAR to determine the occurrence and location of objects of interest. You must exhibit experience communicating with a variety of technical and non-technical audiences regarding availability and capabilities of SAR imagery products, methodologies, procedures, and algorithms to enhance analysis. You must exhibit an understanding of the principles of remote sensing and imagery processing along with advanced exploitation methods.
What Would Be Nice to Have
Experience applying Computer Vision and machine learning techniques to SAR imagery and data to address intelligence problems is desirable.
Skills & Tools
Core skills and tools include SAR, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, ETL, APIs, metadata management, labeling, and model testing.
Practical Notes
Please When you thrive in this role, you contribute directly to national security by ensuring data integrity and reliability throughout the machine learning lifecycle. The work demands precision, clear communication, and a thorough understanding of how sensor characteristics influence data interpretation. You will play a critical part in maintaining standards that allow algorithms to perform reliably in operational environments.
