Grvty is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a focused technical team at a customer site in Dayton, Ohio. This role centers on designing and building Python-based software tools that directly support national security objectives. The work is hands-on and impactful, involving algorithm development, data pipeline construction, and the integration of machine learning into operational and analytical environments. You will work alongside scientists, sensor domain experts, and intelligence analysts, translating complex requirements into functional, maintainable software. This position demands technical sharpness, a high degree of autonomy, and a clear understanding that the systems you build influence mission outcomes.
Your primary responsibilities will include architecting and maintaining Python-based software tools for optical signature modeling, spectral sensor data processing, and analytical workflows. You will orchestrate data pipelines capable of ingesting, processing, and analyzing large-scale scientific and sensor datasets. A core part of your role involves developing and integrating machine learning workflows, covering training data preparation, model integration, and evaluation within operational toolsets. You will create and maintain clear software architecture documentation, workflow diagrams, and code structure to ensure tools remain maintainable and can be transitioned effectively. Testing, validating, and troubleshooting algorithms and software modules across development and deployment environments, including classified workspaces, will be essential. You will manage Git repositories with discipline, ensuring clean commits, meaningful documentation, and reproducible builds. Fostering a culture of technical rigor through peer reviews, coding standards, and honest engagement with complex problems is also expected.
To qualify for this role, you must hold an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI and CI polygraph clearance. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related STEM field is required; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered. You should bring 9+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on scientific computing, algorithm development, data processing, or a related domain, or 7+ years of experience accompanied by a relevant graduate degree. Expert-level Python programming, including object-oriented design, modular architecture, and production-quality code, is mandatory. You must have experience developing software for data-intensive workflows, including sensor data, scientific data, simulation, or equivalent systems. The ability to translate technical or scientific requirements into well-structured software architecture, logic flows, and implementation plans is critical. You must be comfortable operating in both Windows and Linux environments, including secure or classified customer workspaces. Familiarity with source control and development tooling, such as Git, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins, or equivalent, is required. Strong communication skills are necessary to work directly with domain experts who are not software engineers and to translate their needs into working software systems.
Additional qualifications that would strengthen your application include direct experience with optical signature modeling, EO/IR sensor data, spectral analysis, or hyperspectral data processing. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and workflows, such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn, is also valuable. Fluency with scientific Python libraries like NumPy, pandas, OpenCV, and SciPy is preferred. A background in signal processing, image processing, or remote sensing data workflows is beneficial. Experience with simulation, modeling, or mission analysis software in defense or intelligence contexts is highly relevant. Understanding of ML/Ops practices, including training pipelines, data labeling, model evaluation, and deployment workflows, is an asset. History integrating algorithms into existing operational defense software suites is also desirable. Proficiency in a secondary technical language and container-based tooling completes the profile.
