About the role

Gmining Ventures is seeking a skilled Rigger to join our team at the OKO Gold Project located in Georgetown, Guyana. This position is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of materials and equipment on-site. As a Rigger, you will play a vital role in supporting various construction and maintenance activities, contributing to the overall success of the project. This contract role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment while utilizing your expertise in rigging and lifting operations.

What you'll do

Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to understand rigging requirements and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Set up and dismantle rigging equipment, including hoists, pulleys, and winches, to facilitate the movement of heavy materials and machinery.
Inspect rigging equipment regularly to ensure it is in good working condition and report any defects or issues immediately.
Utilize various lifting techniques and equipment to safely move materials of varying sizes and weights across the job site.
Assist in the development of lift plans and rigging diagrams to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to minimize hazards associated with rigging activities.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are stored properly after use.
Train and mentor junior riggers and other site personnel on safe rigging practices and equipment handling.
Participate in safety meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of safety protocols on-site.
Document all rigging activities and maintain accurate records of inspections and maintenance performed on rigging equipment.
Work collaboratively with other trades and contractors to ensure seamless project execution and adherence to timelines.
Respond promptly to any rigging-related emergencies and assist in troubleshooting equipment failures as needed.

Requirements

Proven experience as a rigger in construction, mining, or a related field, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience.
Certification in rigging and lifting operations from a recognized institution is required.
Strong understanding of rigging techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and rigging diagrams.
Excellent physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects safely.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in the mining or construction industry.
Valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy machinery is a plus.
Willingness to work in remote locations and adapt to varying work schedules.

Nice to have

Experience working in gold mining operations or similar projects.
Additional certifications in safety, first aid, or heavy equipment operation.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices in mining operations.
Previous experience in training or mentoring junior staff.

Skills & tools

Proficient in the use of rigging equipment such as slings, shackles, and hoists.
Familiarity with hand and power tools used in rigging and construction.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
Competence in using safety equipment, including harnesses and fall protection gear.
Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes.

Practical notes

This position is based in Georgetown, Guyana, and may require relocation for the duration of the contract.
Candidates must be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and at heights.
