What you'll do
- Provide expert legal advice to senior management and various departments on a wide range of legal issues, including corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements to protect the company's interests and mitigate potential risks.
- Oversee and manage litigation matters, working closely with outside counsel to develop effective strategies and ensure favorable outcomes.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company's operations.
- Develop and implement corporate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide training and guidance on legal matters, promoting a culture of compliance within the organization.
- Assist in mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions, providing legal support throughout the due diligence process.
- Monitor and manage intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights, to protect the company's innovations and brand.
- Support the company's environmental, health, and safety initiatives by providing legal guidance on compliance with relevant regulations.
- Participate in the development of corporate strategies and initiatives, offering legal insights to support business objectives.
- Maintain and manage legal documentation and records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Foster strong relationships with external legal counsel and other service providers to ensure effective legal support for the company.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a corporate legal environment, preferably within the manufacturing or industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of corporate law, contract law, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven experience in managing litigation and working with outside counsel.
- Excellent negotiation and drafting skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to provide practical legal solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong ethical standards and a commitment to upholding the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.
Nice to have
- Experience in the steel manufacturing industry or related fields.
- Familiarity with environmental, health, and safety regulations applicable to manufacturing operations.
- Membership in the Florida Bar or eligibility for admission to the Florida Bar.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a legal department.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
Skills & tools
The successful candidate will be proficient in various legal research and document management tools, with a strong command of Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with contract management software and compliance tracking systems is also advantageous. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively are essential for success in this role.
Practical notes
This position is based in Lakeland, Florida, and may require occasional travel to other company locations or meetings. The Deputy General Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel and will work closely with other members of the executive team.
