What you'll do

• Develop detailed cost estimates for structural steel erection projects, including labor, materials, and equipment.
• Analyze project specifications and blueprints to determine the scope of work and identify potential challenges.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to review project timelines and ensure accurate budgeting.
• Prepare and submit bid proposals, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
• Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather information necessary for accurate estimating.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Utilize estimating software and tools to streamline the estimation process and improve accuracy.
• Monitor project costs throughout the construction phase, providing updates and adjustments as necessary.
• Participate in project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions with the project team.
• Stay updated on industry trends, codes, and regulations to ensure compliance and competitiveness in bidding.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior estimators and other team members as needed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for structural steel erection or related fields.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a focus on accuracy and detail.
• Familiarity with estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar applications.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey information to team members and stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
• Knowledge of local building codes and regulations related to structural steel construction.
• Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with suppliers and subcontractors.

Nice to have

• Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
• Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Primavera.
• Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within an estimating team.
• Familiarity with Lean construction principles and practices.
• Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, to enhance communication with diverse teams and clients.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
• Experience with construction management software to track project progress and costs.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.
