About the role
You will own the technical delivery and quality of complex tax compliance and advisory engagements for a portfolio of sophisticated clients within the High Net Worth and closely held business segments. You will lead cross-functional collaboration with estate planning, financial advisory, and industry specialists to architect integrated solutions that address multifaceted client challenges. You will act as a primary point of technical contact, interpreting nuanced federal, state, and local tax regulations to formulate and execute proactive strategies. You will mentor junior team members, providing direction, review, and practical coaching to elevate the overall performance and technical proficiency of the group. You will spearhead the identification and implementation of process improvements that enhance efficiency, scalability, and consistency within the tax practice. You will cultivate deep client relationships by translating complex technical findings into clear, actionable business and personal recommendations. You will contribute to the development and delivery of thought leadership content, including articles, presentations, and insights that reinforce the firm's reputation as a trusted advisor. You will play a key role in the growth and specialization of the High Net Worth practice, helping to identify opportunities and shape the future direction of this strategic niche.

Champion the identification and realization of state and local tax credit opportunities, driving initiatives that optimize client financial positions.
Orchestrate complex international tax engagements, including cross-border structuring and compliance, to mitigate global regulatory risk and enhance flexibility.
Lead the research, analysis, and resolution of intricate federal and state tax controversy matters, developing defense strategies and negotiating resolutions.
Design and manage the implementation of technology-driven workflows for tax provision and reporting, improving accuracy and team scalability.
Develop and deliver advanced training programs and knowledge transfer sessions focused on niche tax areas and best-in-class service delivery.
Formulate and execute business development initiatives targeted at high net worth individuals and entrepreneurial families, supporting the growth of the specialized practice.
Establish and refine quality control processes for tax engagements, embedding rigorous review standards and continuous improvement methodologies.
Cultivate strategic partnerships with industry experts and internal colleagues to provide holistic advisory solutions that transcend traditional tax compliance.
Evaluate and integrate emerging tax regulations and legislative changes, translating their impact into proactive adjustments for client strategies.
Champion data-driven decision making within the tax practice, utilizing insights to refine service offerings and identify new value-creation opportunities.
Serve as a senior ambassador for the firm, representing Ghj at industry events and contributing to the firm's brand of intelligent, client-centric innovation.
Guide the career development of tax professionals through structured mentorship, performance feedback, and collaborative project leadership.
Requirements
You must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field and have at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting, with a significant focus on tax.
You must hold a current Certified Public Accountant license in good standing, and you must be in the process of obtaining any other relevant state or local licenses required to practice tax law in jurisdictions where you will be performing services.
You must demonstrate advanced technical proficiency in federal, state, and local tax compliance and advisory for high net worth individuals, closely held businesses, and investment entities.
You must have substantial experience managing complex estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning and compliance engagements.
You must have a proven track record of identifying and executing state and local tax credit strategies and research initiatives.
You must have experience leading international tax compliance and advisory projects, including cross-border income and entity structuring.
You must have a history of successfully managing tax controversy and audit defense engagements at a sophisticated level.
You must possess strong leadership capabilities and the ability to manage, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level tax professionals.
You must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals clearly and effectively.
You must be highly proficient in tax technology and data analytics tools, with the ability to leverage these systems to improve engagement quality and efficiency.
You must be able to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential client information and sensitive tax strategies.
You must be committed to delivering exceptional client service and building long-term, trust-based relationships with high net worth individuals and business owners.
You must be willing to travel domestically for client meetings, industry conferences, and professional development events, as required by the role.
