What you'll do
Perform comprehensive technical review and quality assurance of federal, state, and local partnership and S corporation tax returns, including but not limited to Form 1065 and Form 1120-S, to ensure compliance with current accounting standards and regulations.
Lead the planning and execution of complex tax provision calculations, including technical assessments related to entity classification, basis tracking, and distributive decisions for diverse partnership structures.
Supervise and mentor junior tax professionals, providing technical guidance, review, and development opportunities to ensure high-quality output and adherence to departmental deadlines.
Analyze and interpret complex tax legislation, revenue rulings, and proposed regulations to advise clients on potential impacts and compliance strategies.
Coordinate and manage the collection, analysis, and interpretation of client financial data necessary for accurate and timely tax return preparation.
Develop and implement efficient workflows and methodologies to enhance departmental productivity, reduce errors, and improve overall service delivery.
Serve as the primary technical resource for resolving challenging tax issues and inquiries that arise during the preparation of individual, trust, and business tax returns.
Collaborate with audit and advisory teams to ensure consistency in financial reporting positions and to support integrated client engagements where tax implications are significant.
Maintain current knowledge of emerging tax trends, technological advancements in tax software, and industry-specific issues affecting client operations.
Contribute to the growth of the firm by identifying opportunities for process optimization, cross-selling services, and enhancing client relationships through proactive communication.
Conduct detailed reviews of tax positions to identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions to mitigate exposure and ensure regulatory compliance.
Prepare detailed technical memoranda and client correspondence explaining complex tax positions, calculations, and regulatory changes in a clear and concise manner.
Manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously, prioritizing workloads effectively to meet firm standards for timeliness and accuracy.
Evaluate and recommend tax software and technology solutions that improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax preparation and compliance processes.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is mandatory; enrollment in the CPA exam is not sufficient for this role.
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting is required, with a demonstrated history of managing complex tax engagements.
Specific, verifiable experience in the preparation and review of partnership (Form 1065) and S Corporation (Form 1120-S) tax returns is a strict prerequisite for this position.
Substantial experience in the preparation and review of individual (Form 1040) and trust (Form 1041) tax returns is required to ensure comprehensive service capabilities.
Proficiency with major tax preparation software platforms and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills, is necessary for performing detailed calculations and analyses.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with clients, internal stakeholders, and firm management at all levels.
The ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions in a deadline-driven environment with minimal direct supervision is required.
