What you'll do

Conduct thorough safety audits and inspections of engineering projects to identify potential hazards and compliance issues.
Develop and implement safety management systems and protocols to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety considerations into all phases of project planning and execution.
Perform risk assessments and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement in safety practices.
Provide training and guidance to employees on safety procedures and best practices to foster a culture of safety within the organization.
Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to safety compliance and incident investigations for management review.
Stay current with industry standards and regulations, and proactively update safety protocols to reflect changes in legislation or best practices.
Liaise with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and address safety concerns.
Participate in safety committees and initiatives to promote a safe working environment across all departments.
Assist in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and make recommendations for improvements based on findings.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in safety engineering or a related discipline, preferably in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and safety audits.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey safety information to diverse audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with various stakeholders.
Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus.

Nice to have

Experience with environmental safety and compliance regulations.
Familiarity with industrial hygiene practices and principles.
Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies as they relate to safety improvements.
Previous experience in a leadership role within safety management.
Bilingual skills are a plus, particularly in Spanish.

Skills & tools

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for report generation and data analysis.
Familiarity with safety management systems and software tools for tracking compliance and incidents.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate safety documentation.
Ability to utilize data analysis tools to assess safety performance metrics.
Knowledge of emergency response planning and incident investigation methodologies.

Practical notes

This position is based in Oak Brook, Illinois, and requires occasional travel to project sites. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities. A valid driver's license is required for site visits.
