What you'll do
- Conduct thorough safety audits and inspections of engineering projects to identify potential hazards and compliance issues.
- Develop and implement safety management systems and protocols to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety considerations into all phases of project planning and execution.
- Perform risk assessments and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement in safety practices.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on safety procedures and best practices to foster a culture of safety within the organization.
- Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to safety compliance and incident investigations for management review.
- Stay current with industry standards and regulations, and proactively update safety protocols to reflect changes in legislation or best practices.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and address safety concerns.
- Participate in safety committees and initiatives to promote a safe working environment across all departments.
- Assist in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and make recommendations for improvements based on findings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in safety engineering or a related discipline, preferably in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and safety audits.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey safety information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience with environmental safety and compliance regulations.
- Familiarity with industrial hygiene practices and principles.
- Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies as they relate to safety improvements.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within safety management.
- Bilingual skills are a plus, particularly in Spanish.
