What you'll do
- Conduct detailed assessments of electrical plans and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for projects of varying sizes and complexities.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and clarify project requirements.
- Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs to develop comprehensive estimates that reflect market conditions and project needs.
- Prepare and present bid proposals to clients, ensuring clarity and transparency in the estimation process.
- Maintain and update a database of historical cost data to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
- Monitor project progress and adjust estimates as necessary to account for changes in scope or unforeseen challenges.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements and constraints.
- Provide support during the negotiation phase with clients and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
- Assist in the development of project schedules and timelines by providing insights into electrical installation processes and requirements.
- Stay informed about industry trends, codes, and regulations to ensure compliance and enhance estimation accuracy.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department by sharing best practices and innovative approaches.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to secure favorable pricing and terms for materials and services.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical estimating within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in estimation software and tools, such as Accubid, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, codes, and standards.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with project management principles and practices is a plus.
Nice to have
- Certification from a recognized estimating or construction management organization (e.g., AACE, ASPE).
- Experience with renewable energy projects or specialized electrical systems.
- Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its application in estimating processes.
- Previous experience working with government contracts or large-scale commercial projects.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
- Familiarity with project management software such as Primavera or MS Project.
- Strong mathematical skills for precise calculations and estimations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Experience with cost control and budget management practices.
