Senior Fullstack Engineer, Developer Experience

About the role

Bamboohr is seeking a Senior Fullstack Engineer with a focus on Developer Experience to join their team in Lekki, Lagos. This role is central to shaping how developers discover, learn about, and integrate with Bamboohr payment and financial infrastructure. The engineer will work across the full application stack, from frontend interfaces to backend services, to build features that reduce friction for developers adopting the platform. A primary responsibility is improving the developer portal, API documentation, and integration guides so that external developers can get started quickly and confidently, while collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to prioritize improvements that have a measurable impact on developer adoption and satisfaction.

What you'll do

Design and build developer-facing features that simplify integration with Bamboohr payment and financial infrastructure.

Own the developer portal and API documentation to ensure clarity and accuracy for all external users.

Collaborate with product and design teams to identify friction points in the developer onboarding journey.

Write clean, maintainable code for both frontend interfaces and backend services that power developer tools.

Build interactive code examples and sandbox environments that let developers test their integrations safely.

Optimize the developer experience by analyzing usage patterns and gathering feedback from the developer community.

Work with the platform team to improve API performance, reliability, and consistency across all endpoints.

Create internal tooling that accelerates the workflow of engineering teams building Bamboohr products and services.

Participate in code reviews and mentor junior engineers on best practices for fullstack development standards.

Contribute to architectural decisions that shape the long-term direction of Bamboohr developer platforms and tooling.

Develop SDKs and client libraries that make it easier for developers to integrate with Bamboohr.

Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines that support rapid iteration on developer-facing features and releases.

Requirements

Proven experience as a fullstack engineer with a strong focus on building developer-facing products or platforms.

Proficiency in modern JavaScript or TypeScript for building interactive web applications and well-designed, versioned APIs.

Experience with RESTful API design and building developer-friendly endpoints that are well-documented and properly versioned over time.

Solid understanding of frontend frameworks and the ability to build responsive, accessible, and performant web interfaces.

Familiarity with payment or financial technology platforms and their common integration patterns, workflows, and security practices.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex fullstack engineering challenges.

Excellent written communication skills for writing clear documentation, technical guides, and developer-facing content that is easy to follow.

A bachelor degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in a similar role.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and shifting requirements across different teams.

Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization and provide clear guidance.

Nice to have

Experience with OpenAPI or similar specification formats for API documentation and developer tooling.

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure providers and deploying applications in containerized or orchestrated environments at scale.

Background in open source projects or meaningful contributions to developer communities and open source ecosystems.

Knowledge of GraphQL or gRPC protocols in addition to traditional REST API design patterns and practices.

Exposure to developer advocacy or developer relations work in a technology company or open source setting.

Practical notes
