About the role
FloSports is building a world where every sport has a home on screen, and this role sits at the heart of that mission by leading the engineering function that powers our platform. You will own the full lifecycle of software delivery for your team, translating product ambition into reliable, high-performance applications that fans and partners depend on. You will partner closely with Product Managers and Designers to define and drive execution against the strategic vision for our applications. In addition, you will elevate the entire Product Engineering organization by championing inclusion, diversity, ownership, and autonomy across the department. This position is open to fully remote candidates, with the expectation of occasional travel to our Austin, TX office to collaborate in person.

What you'll do
- Manage the performance, development, and engagement of four to six direct reports, including hiring, mentoring, and growing a high-performance full stack engineering team focused on shipping features and services.
- Drive execution by organizing team workflows, setting clear goals, and holding the team accountable while monitoring and escalating issues that block progress.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, designers, and QA on scheduling, planning, and sizing functional specifications and software designs to ensure alignment and feasibility.
- Actively identify and remove bottlenecks that impact the team, removing impediments so the group can advance toward department and company objectives.
- Stay current with industry advances and emerging technologies that can improve the team's efficiency, quality, and delivery predictability.
- Take ownership of the quality and technical output of the team, including code health, reliability, and on-call practices.
- Recruit, interview, and onboard new team members, building a diverse bench that strengthens the capabilities of the engineering organization.
- Partner with other Engineering Leaders to drive accountability, autonomy, inclusion, diversity, and performance across the broader product engineering department.
- Participate actively in code reviews, technical and architectural design discussions, and incident management, ensuring healthy on-call escalations and robust operational practices.
- Contribute hands-on to full stack development when appropriate, pairing with engineers to unblock work and maintain technical credibility.
Requirements
- Bring a minimum of four years of hands-on software engineering experience, with meaningful work in both front-end and back-end domains.
- Demonstrate at least two years of management experience in a software development role, leading people and processes.
- Show a track record of leading software engineers, including developing skills, managing careers, conducting hiring and performance management, and fostering growth.
- Consistently focus on process improvements and key performance metrics that enhance the effectiveness and maturity of the development team.
- Act as a collaborative partner in product decisions, working effectively with stakeholders to balance tradeoffs and deliver outcomes.
- Understand systems and software architecture at a senior level, with consideration for high traffic, scalable web and distributed systems, reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Exhibit high-level proficiency in front-end and backend technologies, enabling effective technical guidance and decision-making.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in consuming and building RESTful APIs using JSON and standard CRUD patterns.
- Maintain a high level of familiarity with CI/CD processes, ensuring that pipelines are robust, automated, and well-managed.
- Prefer candidates with experience in containerization technologies and exposure to managing large data sets.
