Broadcast Engineer, Level 1

About the role

The hire will own end to end support for live streaming workflows across FloSports digital platforms and broadcast partners. This role requires a proactive mindset to triage issues during live events and to escalate appropriately while maintaining detailed documentation of root causes in real time. You will own testing procedures with league partners to validate compatibility and performance of incoming feeds. The position will collaborate closely with Stream Operations, Logistics, Production, and Engineering teams to coordinate schedules and resolve technical constraints. You will apply deep knowledge of streaming protocols and encoding ecosystems to maintain broadcast quality and reliability. This role is expected to contribute to research and development initiatives that shape future broadcast capabilities. The position demands comfort with dynamic live environments and a commitment to continuous improvement of day to day processes.

What you'll do

• Provide Tier 2 support on live events across FloSports streaming platforms and broadcast workflows.
• Maintain flexible shift scheduling, including work over weekends and nights to cover live events globally.
• Assist with Feed Partners testing to validate stream compatibility, quality, and latency requirements.
• Work with Logistics and Production teams in preparation for upcoming Flo produced events and installations.
• Collaborate with Stream Operations to analyze and improve day to day processes for broadcast reliability.
• Triage technical issues and document initial root causes in real time for operations and engineering teams.
• Perform possible travel for encoder installation, testing, and on site validation at remote locations.
• Track and resolve bugs specific to encoders, cellular bonding devices, and streaming infrastructure components.
• Participate in R&D projects focused on emerging broadcast technologies and workflow optimizations.
• Support integration testing with league partners and external broadcast partners to ensure seamless interoperability.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in Remote Production environments managing live broadcast workflows.
• 3+ years of experience in Live Event Support roles within broadcast or streaming contexts.
• Basic understanding of streaming protocols including RTMP, SRT, RTP, WebRTC, and Zixi in live workflows.
• Basic understanding of encoding software solutions such as vMix, OBS, and Tricaster in production scenarios.
• Basic understanding of encoding hardware platforms including TVU, Videon, and Haivision systems.
• Basic networking knowledge to troubleshoot connectivity, routing, and bandwidth issues affecting streams.
• Basic understanding of analog and digital signal flows from source to delivery endpoint.
• Basic understanding of Zixi workflows and the ZEN Master management interface for stream orchestration.
• Basic understanding of AWS services such as Medialive, Mediatailor, MediaStore, S3, and EC2 for deployment scenarios.
• Ability to collaborate with team members on Root Cause Analysis investigations during live incidents.
• Basic skills in alerting and monitoring tools such as NPAW, YouBora, Orion, DataDog, and ZEN Master.
• Basic skills in operational tools including Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, Google Workspace, VoIP, and Domo for task tracking.
• Capability to track, resolve, and document bugs affecting encoders and cellular bonding devices in real time.
• Basic understanding of Content Delivery Networks including Fastly, Cloudflare, Akamai, and Cloudfront for delivery optimization.

Nice to have

• A+ Certified professional demonstrating foundational IT hardware and operating system knowledge.
• Network + Certified professional with validated networking fundamentals and security concepts.
• AWS Solution Architect Associate certification indicating deeper cloud architecture understanding.
• 1 year of live production on-site experience in roles such as Producer, Director, Technical Director, Graphics Operator, EVS Operator, or similar.
• Hands-on experience with TVU hardware and workflows for live video transmission.
• Hands-on experience with Videon hardware and related streaming workflows.
• 1+ year of stream technician experience in on-site or remote live streaming operations.

Practical notes

This role operates under full time engagement with flexibility for shift scheduling including nights and weekends to support live events. Possible travel may be required for encoder installation and testing at remote sites. No visa sponsorship is available for this position at this time. Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada without sponsorship. The start date will be determined based on successful completion of hiring requirements and team availability.
