About the role

Fivetran is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join their growing team in Novi Sad, Serbia. The role involves building and maintaining data connectors that help organizations move data between sources and destinations efficiently and reliably across the cloud. This engineer will work on the core platform that powers Fivetran's data integration capabilities, which serve thousands of customers worldwide with mission-critical data pipelines. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting connectors that extract and load data from a wide variety of sources into destination data warehouses and data lakes.

What you'll do

• Design and implement scalable data connectors that enable reliable data extraction from cloud applications and on-premises databases with high availability
• Write clean, well-structured, and maintainable code in Python, Java, or Go to support the Fivetran connector platform
• Collaborate closely with product teams to define connector specifications, technical requirements, and integration patterns for new data sources
• Debug and resolve complex issues that arise in data synchronization pipelines across a wide variety of source systems
• Optimize connector performance and throughput to handle large volumes of data transfers efficiently within production environments at scale
• Participate actively in code reviews and contribute to establishing engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines across the development team
• Build and maintain comprehensive automated testing frameworks that ensure connector reliability and correctness across all supported data sources
• Work alongside the infrastructure and operations teams to deploy connectors to production environments and continuously monitor their ongoing health and stability
• Investigate and resolve data transformation errors that occur during the ETL process to ensure data integrity and accuracy
• Contribute to the open-source components and internal developer tooling that the Fivetran engineering organization relies on for daily development workflows

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution
• A minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade applications and distributed systems in a team environment
• Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python, Java, or Go is required for this role
• Demonstrated experience building data pipelines or ETL systems that operate reliably at scale in complex production environments
• Hands-on experience with SQL and a solid understanding of relational database concepts, query optimization, and schema design
• Solid understanding of REST APIs and common web service integration patterns, including authentication and error handling
• Ability to work independently and take full ownership of connector projects from initial design through production deployment
• Prior experience with distributed systems, concurrent programming concepts, asynchronous processing models, and message queue systems is highly valued

Nice to have

• Prior experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure is a plus
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and familiarity with tools like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift is beneficial
• Previous contributions to open-source projects related to data integration, connectors, or data pipeline tooling are welcomed
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes is considered helpful for this position

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or similar general-purpose languages for backend development
• Hands-on working experience with data pipeline frameworks, ETL tooling, and batch or incremental data synchronization methods
• Solid working knowledge of SQL and relational database management systems including query writing and performance tuning
• Practical experience in REST API design, implementation, and integration with external services and third-party platforms
• Strong proficiency in version control systems, with a particular focus on Git workflows and branching strategies
• Comfortable and productive working with Linux operating systems, shell scripting, and command-line development tools daily

• The role is based in the Novi Sad office located in South Bačka, Serbia, within the EMEA region
• This is a full-time position that requires regular on-site presence at the Novi Sad engineering office during standard business hours
