About the role
Fivetran is hiring a Manager, Software Engineering to lead engineering teams in building and maintaining data pipeline infrastructure. This role is based remotely within the India and Asia-Pacific region and reports to the engineering leadership team at Fivetran headquarters. The manager will be responsible for guiding a group of software engineers through the full software development lifecycle, from initial design through production deployment and ongoing maintenance. You will shape technical direction, mentor individual contributors, and help Fivetran deliver reliable data integration solutions that serve thousands of customers worldwide.

What you'll do
- Lead a team of software engineers building data integration and pipeline products at Fivetran.
- Own the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects across multiple sprints and quarters.
- Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering best practices and coding standards.
- Partner with product managers to define technical requirements and prioritize feature work for the roadmap.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through regular one-on-one sessions, growth plans, and skill development.
- Drive architectural decisions that improve system reliability, scalability, and overall developer productivity across the team.
- Represent the engineering team in cross-functional meetings with design, data, and product stakeholder groups.
- Establish and maintain team processes for agile development, incident response procedures, and on-call rotation schedules.
- Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that improve team velocity and code quality.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, accountability, and high engineering standards within the team.
- Collaborate with other engineering managers to align on resourcing, capacity planning, and cross-team dependencies.
- Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives to build a strong, equitable, and high-performing engineering organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Five or more years of professional software engineering experience with strong programming fundamentals and system design.
- At least two years in a people management or technical leadership role overseeing engineering teams directly.
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems or data infrastructure at scale in production environments.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, Go, or Scala.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver projects on time in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and containerized deployment workflows in a production or staging environment.
- Experience with data modeling, schema design, and working with large-scale data stores and warehouses.
- Proven track record of improving team processes, hiring practices, and engineering culture over multiple hiring cycles.
Nice to have
- Experience working with data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.
- Background in ELT or ETL pipeline development and data movement at scale in production.
- Exposure to open-source contributions or community-driven engineering projects and collaborative development workflows.
- Familiarity with observability tools, monitoring dashboards, and production incident management and postmortem practices.
- Knowledge of data modeling techniques and dimensional modeling for analytics and business intelligence workloads.

- Programming languages including Python, Java, Go, or Scala for backend systems and service development.
- Cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure for deployment, scaling, and operations.
- Container orchestration tools like Kubernetes and Docker for managing service deployments and cluster operations.
- CI/CD pipeline tools including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar automation and deployment platforms.
- Relational and NoSQL databases for data storage, query optimization, and schema management tasks.
- Agile project management frameworks and collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, and Slack.
- Version control systems, primarily Git, for collaborative code development and branch management workflows.
- Monitoring and logging frameworks for observability, alerting, and production system health tracking.

- This is a fully remote position with core overlap hours aligned to the India or APAC time zone for team collaboration.
- The role reports to the Director or VP of Engineering within the Fivetran data platform organization.
