Staff Software Engineer

About the role

You will design and operate infrastructure systems ensuring parity across single and multi-tenancy models and across AWS, Azure, and GCP while collaborating with engineering teams to achieve consistent deployments. You will bring cloud infrastructure expertise to strengthen and scale our platform as we expand dbt Cloud's multi-cloud capabilities. You will help create a great developer experience while working closely with partners in Architecture, Release Engineering, Product Engineering, and Security. You will work on medium projects that refine our platform while ensuring performance, reliability, and an excellent developer experience. You will collaborate across teams to solve real infrastructure challenges and help shape the future of multi-cloud dbt Cloud. You will support automation, self-service, and initiatives that improve developer velocity through better tooling, processes, and infrastructure design. You will contribute to a seamless, observable, and easy-to-use infrastructure platform that delivers a seamless developer experience.

What you'll do

• Design, operate, and support infrastructure systems with parity across tenancy models (single vs multi) and public clouds (AWS, Azure, and GCP) - and work with engineering teams to get their services consistently deployed to those environments.
• Bring cloud infrastructure expertise to the team, helping us strengthen and scale our infrastructure as we expand dbt Cloud's multi-cloud capabilities.
• Help create a great developer experience while working with our close partners in Architecture, Release Engineering, Product Engineering and Security.
• Work on medium projects that help refine our platform while ensuring performance, reliability, and a great developer experience.
• Collaborate across teams to solve real infrastructure challenges and help shape the future of multi-cloud dbt Cloud.
• Support automation, self-service, and improving developer velocity through better tooling, processes, and infrastructure design.
• Contribute to a stable, observable, and easy-to-use infrastructure platform that delivers a seamless developer experience.
• Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure infrastructure designs meet organizational and regulatory standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support production infrastructure and respond to incidents promptly.
• Drive infrastructure improvements through code reviews, design documents, and knowledge sharing with the engineering organization.
• Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on infrastructure best practices and cloud platform patterns.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and propose integrations that enhance the dbt Cloud platform.
• Track and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks, ensuring high availability and scalability across all supported cloud providers.
• Maintain and evolve infrastructure documentation to support operational runbooks and future platform changes.
• Collaborate with product teams to translate business requirements into robust infrastructure solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure, or platform engineering roles.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• 8+ years of experience building and operating reliable, scalable infrastructure and distributed systems.
• 8+ years of experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• 8+ years of experience with container orchestration platforms, with strong proficiency in Kubernetes.
• 8+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks.
• 8+ years of experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools to manage production infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity and access management in cloud environments.
• Solid experience with scripting and programming languages such as Python, Go, or similar.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Deep commitment to operational excellence, reliability, and customer impact.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and handle production incidents as needed.
