About the role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies. The role focuses on developing enterprise-grade capabilities and features that support the largest and most sophisticated customers. This position directly impacts the entire product as the team develops the next generation of enterprise, data governance, and solutions engineering offerings. The work involves solving problems in performance engineering, data security, and cluster orchestration. You do not need to be a subject matter expert before joining, but you will become one over time.

Architect intake workflows that normalize diverse sources into resilient cloud pipelines.
Define build strategies for connector abstractions that simplify downstream transformations.
Champion review practices that validate security, performance, and correctness before deployment.
Orchestrate shipping schedules that coordinate releases across products and regions.
Forge partner integrations that extend Fivetran capabilities within governed ecosystems.
Optimize cluster operations to sustain high throughput and efficient resource usage.
Establish testing standards that catch regressions early and protect production stability.
Guide onboarding artifacts that accelerate team ramp-up and consistent implementation.
Design observability surfaces that provide actionable insight into pipeline health and latency.
Collaborate with solutions engineers to translate complex customer requirements into technical specifications.
Refine data governance models to ensure compliance and auditability across multi-tenant deployments.
Implement patterns for secure credential management and encrypted data movement in cloud environments.
Lead investigations into performance bottlenecks and drive remediation through iterative optimization.
Mentor engineers on best practices for building reliable, maintainable, and scalable data integration systems.
Contribute to open source ecosystems where appropriate to strengthen the broader data integration community.
Requirements
You hold at least three years of industry experience building distributed systems in production.
You can design scalable architectures using languages and tools common to data platforms.
You communicate clearly with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders under tight deadlines.
You understand data modeling concepts and constraints that affect pipeline behavior.
You are authorized to work in the United States for this role based in Oakland, CA.
You are comfortable working in fast-paced environments where priorities shift and ambiguity is common.
You have a strong grasp of software development lifecycle practices including version control, testing, and code review.
You demonstrate ownership of complex problems and follow through to resolve issues end to end.
Nice to have
Experience with dbt, cloud providers, and container orchestration platforms.
