Affiliate Marketing Manager
Job description
About the role
This position manages a distinct, opt-in merchant program that sits alongside standard merchant engagement. The role operates inside Marketing and owns program performance, partner networks, and value communication. Success depends on coordinating execution teams and guiding merchant decisions.
Sales roles connect a company's product with the customers who need it. Representatives research accounts, run demos, handle objections, and close deals. The work is quota driven and moves quickly. Strong sellers combine listening skills with product knowledge and steady follow through. Sales roles reward consistent activity and honest qualification of deals. Most companies use a defined sales process, and reps are trained on it before being left on their own.
Key facts
What you'll do
Program operations own membership, tracking configuration, commission design, payout processing, and continuous management across partner networks such as Impact, UpPromote, CJ, and Everflow. Economic outcomes for the program are shaped by commission rules and member benefits that balance value for the merchant and the platform.
Deliverable management maintains the catalog of outputs available at each enrollment tier and their capacity limits. Delivery timelines for every affiliate member are clarified and confirmed with Partner Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, and sales teams. A current inventory of deliverables, quality standards, and throughput constraints is kept as the program inventory.
Program growth presents the economic rationale and return narrative for the affiliate program to internal and external stakeholders. Quarterly reporting provides each affiliate member with data that shows their participation return. Program-level analytics track member counts, enrollment pipeline, revenue driven, fulfillment success, and member attrition.
Requirements
Operational rigor builds systems, playbooks, and calendars that keep a multi-platform, multi-member program clean and coordinated. Data-driven decision making uses transaction numbers to shape value arguments, economic models, and member dashboards. A self-starter thrives in fast-moving growth settings while the program is built from early stages. Clear communication presents the program's assets and value to merchant marketing teams without turning sessions into pitches. Cross-functional collaboration coordinates with partner marketing, lifecycle marketing, sales, and merchant success on deliverables and conversations.
Practical notes
The role expects experience operating within networks such as Impact, UpPromote, CJ, and Everflow for operations and reporting. Typical interview steps
Sales hiring often includes a role play, a discovery call simulation, and a presentation. Candidates may be asked to pitch a product to a panel or handle a tough objection. Behavioral questions focus on past quota attainment and deal history. Energy and preparation matter. Interviewers often simulate the job in the interview itself, so be ready to run a short discovery call or demo. Practicing your own sales pitch out loud helps.
Good to know
Roles of this type focus on coordinating partners, data, and operations to grow program performance. Common tools include affiliate networks, analytics platforms, and collaboration software for cross-functional teams. Success depends on clear documentation, repeatable processes, and structured communication with merchant stakeholders.
Questions to ask
Useful questions for the interview: what a typical week looks like, how work is assigned, what tools the team uses, and how feedback works. Asking how the role has changed recently and what the team wishes it had known when joining is also reasonable. Questions about the manager's priorities are especially valued.
Career growth
Sales careers can move from SDR or associate to account executive, senior AE, manager, and director roles. Some sellers move into partnerships, account management, or revenue operations. Compensation typically mixes a base with commission tied to results. High performers in sales typically move into larger accounts, team leadership, or sales operations. Quota history and references carry the most weight in promotion.
