General Manager (SoHo)
Job description
About the role
Fitt Talent Partners is a specialized recruitment firm serving health and wellness companies, and we are hiring on behalf of a client: a forward-thinking wellness organization that is reimagining hospitality through a first-of-its-kind social wellness club. The brand runs member-facing spaces where fitness, social connection, and elevated service come together under one roof, and this General Manager role sits at the flagship location in SoHo, New York City. You are the face of the club, the leader of its floor team, and the person most responsible for how the space feels to everyone who walks through the door. This is a visible, hands-on leadership position rather than a desk job. You will spend your shift on the floor, coaching staff in real time, greeting members, resolving issues as they arise, and steering the business with the same energy you bring to hospitality. The goal is simple to describe and demanding to deliver: every guest, every member, and every team member should leave the building better than they arrived. The role reports into the brand leadership team and works alongside functional leads in membership sales, events, and programming. Because this is a flagship location, the bar for consistency, presentation, and culture is high, and your performance here sets the standard for future sites.
Key facts
The company is an innovative wellness operator that defines itself through hospitality rather than a conventional gym model. The SoHo location is a flagship and a proving ground for the broader brand. The role is full time and based on site in New York City, with substantial floor time expected. The hiring process is run by Fitt Talent Partners on behalf of the client, so early conversations happen with the recruitment team before moving to club leadership. Compensation and benefits are competitive for a flagship general manager position in the wellness space and will be discussed directly with the client. The club operates seven days a week, which means the role includes evening and weekend presence on a structured rotation. Success is measured across revenue, member retention, team development, and hospitality quality scores. This is a growth-oriented environment where a strong General Manager is often tapped for regional or multi-site responsibilities later.
What you'll do
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing floor and front-of-house team, building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and exceptional hospitality.
- Spend most of each shift on the floor, being present with members and staff rather than working from an office or back room.
- Build genuine relationships with members, learning names, preferences, and goals, and connecting them to the right services and programs.
- Own the member experience end to end, from the first tour to onboarding, daily visits, events, and renewals.
- Resolve member concerns quickly and personally, using each issue as a chance to strengthen trust.
- Manage club operations, including front desk coverage, class schedules, facility presentation, inventory, and opening and closing procedures.
- Drive business performance by tracking membership sales, retention, ancillary revenue, and event attendance, and adjusting tactics weekly.
- Develop your team through one-on-ones, feedback, training, and clear career paths, so the club becomes a talent magnet.
- Partner with membership sales, marketing, and programming teams to keep the calendar full and the pipeline healthy.
- Act as the standard bearer for hospitality culture, modeling how every interaction should feel.
- Oversee staffing plans, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling so the club is always covered by the right people.
- Represent the brand in the SoHo community, building local partnerships that bring in new members and awareness.
Requirements
- Several years of management experience in hospitality, fitness, wellness, or premium retail service.
- A track record of leading teams directly, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Experience running a member-facing or guest-facing location with daily operational accountability.
- Comfort with revenue targets and the willingness to be measured on sales and retention outcomes.
- Strong people skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly with a wide range of members.
- Availability for a schedule that includes evenings and weekends, since the club serves members every day.
- Proven ability to create a warm, consistent, on-brand experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal communication and the confidence to give direct, constructive feedback.
Nice to have
- Experience with a fitness, spa, hotel, or luxury hospitality brand.
- Familiarity with CRM or membership management software.
- Background in events or programming for a membership community.
- Experience opening or launching a new location.
- Formal training in hospitality management, wellness, or business.
Skills & tools
- Leadership and coaching.
- Front-of-house and facility operations.
- Membership and guest relationship management.
- Scheduling and labor planning.
- Sales pipeline and retention reporting.
- Common booking, CRM, and POS systems used in wellness clubs.
Practical notes
- You will be asked to show up on the floor, not behind a desk; come ready for a physically active, fast-moving day.
- Interview stages include a phone screen with Fitt Talent Partners, a conversation with the client leadership team, and a final on-site visit to the SoHo club.
- Relocation support is not the focus of this hire, so candidates should already be based in or ready to move to New York City at their own pace.
- Expect a structured onboarding period where you shadow current leads before taking full ownership of the shift floor.
- The client values discretion and professionalism, since you will work with well-known members and guests.
Project highlights
You will work at the flagship club, the location the brand uses to prototype new classes, events, and member experiences before rolling them out elsewhere. A major focus for the near term is growing the member community in SoHo while raising the standard of hospitality at the front door, on the floor, and in every class. There is also an active program of social and wellness events, and the General Manager helps shape that calendar, making sure each event lands with the right audience and energy. For a hands-on operator, this is a chance to build one of the city's most talked-about wellness spaces from the inside.
Why you should apply
This is a rare general manager role at a flagship location of a brand that is creating a new category in wellness. It suits leaders who are energized by being on the floor with people rather than in meetings, and who take pride in how a room feels when they walk through it. The brand is growing, so strong results open doors to regional leadership. You will also get support from a specialized recruitment partner who knows the wellness market well, and a client team that treats hospitality as a craft. If you want a job where your presence, your taste, and your people skills show up every single day, this is it.
