About the role
Figure is building autonomous humanoid robots designed for both home and commercial environments. This internship focuses on the development and validation of hardware systems for our general-purpose robots during the Fall 2026 term. As an intern, you will own specific modules of the hardware development lifecycle, ensuring that your contributions directly support the advancement of our robotics platform. You will be responsible for translating high-level system requirements into detailed electrical implementations that meet strict performance and safety standards. Your work will involve close collaboration with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to align your deliverables with project goals. You will play a critical role in verifying that hardware designs function reliably in real-world scenarios, providing essential feedback for iterative improvement. Through this internship, you will gain hands-on experience in bringing complex robotic hardware from concept to production.

What you'll do
- Develop and verify printed circuit board assemblies for humanoid systems, including battery management, power distribution, sensing, motor control, and computing modules.
- Participate in the evaluation of technical documentation such as schematics, bills of materials, and board layouts provided by team members or vendors.
- Assist with system-level integration, including executing test protocols and troubleshooting hardware issues.
- Perform schematic capture and layout design using Altium, ensuring adherence to best practices and design for manufacturing principles.
- Conduct electrical testing and validation of prototype boards to confirm functionality against predefined specifications.
- Support the development and debugging of power electronics circuits, including motor drivers and switch mode power supplies.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to verify digital electronics functionality involving MCUs, FPGAs, Ethernet, USB, SPI, and I2C interfaces.
- Contribute to the analysis and optimization of analog circuits such as filters, ADCs, and DACs for signal integrity and performance.
- Document design changes, test results, and observations in a clear and structured manner for team review and knowledge sharing.
- Engage in root cause analysis for hardware failures, implementing corrective actions to improve reliability and robustness.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of bills of materials, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Support the preparation of technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders as needed.
- Explore and evaluate new components, vendors, and technologies to enhance the capabilities of the robotic platform.
- Participate in design reviews and cross-functional meetings to provide technical input and ensure alignment with project objectives.
Requirements
- Current senior undergraduate or recent graduate in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong grasp of electrical engineering principles with practical experience in the full lifecycle of PCBA development.
- Proficiency in EDA software, specifically Altium for schematic capture and layout.
- Technical background in power electronics, digital systems, and analog circuitry.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Enrollment in a degree program or recent completion of a degree is required for eligibility.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to meeting project deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality in all deliverables.
- Familiarity with version control practices for design files is strongly encouraged.
- Willingness to adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines at all times.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Python, Matlab, and LTspice.
- Experience with embedded firmware development for FPGAs, microcontrollers, and DSPs.
- Foundational knowledge of mechanical design.
