About the role
You will serve as the primary on-site technical presence for data collection operations, acting as the first line of defense when robots encounter operational issues in real-world environments. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end troubleshooting process for the robot data collection system, diagnosing and resolving hardware and software faults as they emerge in domestic and commercial settings. You will bridge the gap between remote engineering teams and field reality, translating ambiguous robot behaviors into actionable diagnostic steps while maintaining strict adherence to deployment schedules. This role demands rigorous root-cause analysis of recurring technical blockers, enabling the development of scalable workflows that prevent future disruptions and improve system reliability. You will execute robot commissioning and testing at customer sites, ensuring each unit is fully operational before commencing data collection activities. A core part of your ownership involves teaching troubleshooting techniques and providing hands-on coaching to collection teams, elevating their technical capacity over time. You will also produce clear, structured communication for engineers and leadership, summarizing site health, recurring issues, and data trends to inform product decisions.

What you'll do
Support engineering with deployment, serving as an on-site representative to reach development goals and ensure alignment between field execution and technical specifications.
Provide hands-on support to the collection team to unblock technical issues, communicate updates from engineers, teach troubleshooting techniques, and provide coaching on system workflows.
Execute robot commissioning and testing at the customer site, including tracking and analyzing collections, coding and debugging as necessary to resolve emergent software behaviors.
Triage hardware and software issues as they appear, document learnings in structured formats, and drive fixes to resolution across engineering teams to prevent recurrence.
Plan and execute the logistics of deploying early-stage robotic systems to homes and apartments, coordinating schedules, site readiness, and safety protocols.
Work with robot operators and technicians as the site lead, ensuring required work is completed and tools, spares, and equipment are available to maintain continuous operation.
Communicate clearly to engineers and leadership by producing regular summaries of site health, recurring issues, and trends to guide strategic and tactical responses.
Manage travel to active data collection sites across the country, with regular travel across the Bay Area and approximately 25% travel across the country to support remote deployments.
Conduct systematic testing of robotic hardware and software configurations in diverse home environments to validate performance under real-world conditions.
Maintain detailed records of deployment activities, anomalies, and resolutions to build a knowledge base that supports future scalability and training.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align deployment timelines, resolve dependencies, and mitigate risks that could delay data collection objectives.
Adapt deployment procedures based on feedback from field operations, ensuring that workflows evolve to reflect practical constraints and emerging best practices.
Ensure compliance with site-specific requirements, including data security, privacy policies, and equipment handling standards during every visit.
Act as a technical advocate for the robot systems, balancing customer expectations with engineering constraints to maintain productive partnerships.
Requirements
3-5+ years of work experience in automotive or industrial automation/robotics integration, deployment, and development, providing a proven track record in complex system rollouts.
An Engineering degree with a strong technical foundation, demonstrating applied knowledge of electro-mechanical systems and software integration principles.
Excellent judgment and execution in high-pressure situations, where rapid decisions are required to maintain deployment schedules and data integrity.
The ability to work with your hands on electro-mechanical systems, including performing diagnostics, repairs, and adjustments in field conditions.
Experience with stakeholder management and customer success, ensuring clear expectations, timely updates, and positive interactions during deployments.
Experience transitioning products from design to pilot to commercialization, understanding the challenges inherent in scaling robotic systems.
Familiarity with project management software such as Confluence, Jira, and similar tools to track tasks, document processes, and coordinate workflows.
Willingness to travel frequently to collection sites, including regular travel across the Bay Area and approximately 25% travel across the country to meet operational demands.
Nice to have
Software validation experience to support rigorous testing protocols and ensure system reliability in production environments.
Experience with Linux, Python, or other coding languages to enable deeper diagnostics, script automation, and lightweight software modifications in the field.
