What you'll do

• Construct and repair various types of vessels, including commercial ships, yachts, and naval vessels, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to interpret blueprints and technical drawings, translating them into practical construction plans.
• Utilize a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and welding machines, to carry out shipbuilding tasks effectively.
• Conduct thorough inspections of vessels during and after construction to identify any defects or areas requiring additional work.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on existing vessels, ensuring they remain seaworthy and compliant with maritime regulations.
• Work closely with other tradespeople, including electricians and plumbers, to coordinate tasks and ensure seamless integration of systems within the vessels.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
• Document work performed, including materials used and time spent on various tasks, to assist with project management and reporting.
• Participate in training and development opportunities to stay current with industry trends, techniques, and safety practices.
• Assist in the development of project timelines and budgets, providing input on material and labor costs associated with shipbuilding projects.
• Engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting activities to address any challenges that arise during the construction or repair processes.
• Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration, contributing to a positive work environment and supporting fellow team members in achieving project goals.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Shipwright or in a similar role within the maritime industry, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications related to shipbuilding.
• Strong knowledge of shipbuilding materials, including wood, fiberglass, and metals, and their respective properties and applications.
• Familiarity with various shipbuilding techniques, including welding, riveting, and composite construction.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as required.
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in shipbuilding or marine engineering are highly desirable.

• Experience with modern shipbuilding software and tools, enhancing efficiency in design and construction processes.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainable practices in shipbuilding and repair.
• Previous experience working on specialized vessels, such as research ships or luxury yachts.
