Key facts
What you'll do
- Conduct surface preparation tasks, including abrasive blasting, to ensure optimal adhesion of coatings.
- Apply various types of paint and protective coatings to surfaces, ensuring even coverage and high-quality finishes.
- Operate and maintain blasting equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and compliant with safety standards.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and masking areas that require protection from paint overspray.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members to understand project specifications and timelines.
- Monitor environmental conditions to determine the best times for painting and blasting operations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
- Keep accurate records of work performed, including materials used and time spent on each task.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of work areas, ensuring that all tools and materials are organized and stored properly.
- Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in painting and blasting techniques.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the painting and blasting processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a painter and abrasive blaster, preferably in an industrial or construction setting.
- Familiarity with various painting techniques and types of coatings, including epoxy and polyurethane.
- Knowledge of abrasive blasting methods and equipment, including safety practices associated with their use.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from the job site.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
Nice to have
- Certification in painting and decorating or a related field.
- Experience working with hazardous materials and knowledge of proper handling procedures.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations related to painting and blasting operations.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the painting and blasting industry.
- Additional certifications in safety training, such as Working at Heights or Confined Space Entry.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and blasting equipment.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation techniques and the application of coatings.
