AI Marketing Specialist (SEO Specialist)
Job description
About the role
Darkroom is engineering the brands of tomorrow through a fusion of human creativity and machine intelligence. As a human services company powered by Matter, our universal AI commerce layer, we integrate executive-level strategy with proprietary agentic technology to deliver measurable growth at every stage of the customer journey. The AI Marketing division is being built to own the new paradigm where LLM-powered search, AI agents, and generative experiences replace decade-old playbooks of keywords and blue links. We are seeking an SEO Specialist who will manage all aspects of SEO and Generative Engine Optimization for a portfolio of high-growth consumer brands, ensuring discoverability in both traditional search and AI-mediated platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini. This role operates at the intersection of organic search and emerging AI systems, reporting to the Associate Director of AI Marketing while collaborating closely with content, creative, paid media, and data teams to deliver integrated growth strategies. The ideal candidate is obsessively curious about AI, deeply analytical about search behavior, and ready to help define a category that is still being written in real time.

- Conduct deep keyword research, technical site audits, and multi-layered competitor analyses to uncover growth opportunities in both traditional search engines and AI-powered answer engines.
- Continuously analyze SEO performance metrics, attribution models, and AI citation data to generate actionable insights and clear recommendations for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor keyword rankings, organic traffic patterns, and the frequency of AI-generated citations, then adjust tactics based on performance data and emerging model behaviors.
- Optimize client content and digital properties specifically for visibility within LLM-powered search environments, focusing on clarity, structure, and trustworthiness.
- Design and execute Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies aimed at increasing how often and how favorably client brands are referenced in AI-generated answers, recommendations, and overlays.
- Track the rapidly shifting landscape of how large language models source, rank, and cite information, translating model changes into timely, data-backed client strategies.
- Build and maintain robust frameworks for tracking "AI share of voice," citation quality, and answer dominance across multiple generative search platforms.

- Identify and pursue high-value external partnership opportunities, guest posting placements, and industry directories that amplify organic and AI-driven referral traffic.
- Monitor and manage backlink profiles to ensure a strong online reputation, mitigate risk, and reinforce topical authority in competitive verticals.
- Create and manage content calendars, briefs, and performance reviews that align with quarterly business goals and AI search trends.
- Collaborate with data and performance teams to set up tracking infrastructure, dashboards, and experiments that measure the impact of SEO and GEO initiatives on revenue and brand visibility.
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and roadmaps to cross-functional stakeholders in clear, actionable language that bridges technical and strategic perspectives.
- Stay current with updates from major search engines, AI labs, and emerging platforms, ensuring that strategies remain resilient and forward-looking in a fast-moving ecosystem.
