VP of People
Job description
About the role
Curri is seeking a VP of People to design and build a People function that scales with the company into its next growth phase. Curri has about 250 employees today, and it is hiring at a rapid pace. The VP of People will continually shape how the company organizes, how it develops leaders, and how it executes talent strategy as the company grows over time. This is a builder role through and through. You will own Curri's entire people function, with talent acquisition, HR business partnership, and people operations combined into one integrated department. You report directly to Curri's Chief Legal Officer. You will manage and grow a team of recruiters, HR business partners, and people operations specialists, and you will stand up the programs and infrastructure that a company at this scale needs in order to run well. The role is based on-site in Ventura, California, and you are expected to work from the office alongside the leadership team and the people team you are building.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and manage the People department, setting the structure, roles, and cadence the team runs on as headcount grows.
- Own Curri's talent strategy, turning headcount plans into recruiting targets, hiring standards, and an employer brand people recognize.
- Stand up HR programs and infrastructure that do not exist yet, defining how the department operates at growing scale.
- Coach and develop managers and leaders so the leadership bench keeps pace with the company's growth.
- Design compensation and benefits frameworks, promotion criteria, and performance management processes.
- Work closely with the CLO and the rest of the leadership team to keep people decisions aligned with business direction.
- Oversee the full recruiting pipeline, from sourcing through offer, keeping quality high while volume climbs.
- Set the operating cadence for the department, including planning cycles, reporting, and decision rights.
- Hire and mentor your own team, adding recruiters, HR business partners, and people operations staff as needs grow.
- Advise on organizational design, culture, and retention at each stage of scaling.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading a People or HR function at a fast-growing company.
- Experience building People infrastructure from an early stage rather than only running an established department.
- A record of leading talent acquisition through rising volume without losing hiring quality.
- Demonstrated ability to coach managers and develop leaders.
- Working knowledge of HR business partnering, employee relations, and people operations.
- Experience designing compensation, benefits, performance, and promotion programs.
- Ability to be on-site in Ventura, California and to travel when the business needs it.
- Comfort making decisions with incomplete information in a fast-moving environment.
Nice to have
- Experience in logistics, last-mile delivery, or a field operations business.
- A background growing an organization from roughly 100 to several hundred employees.
- Experience running hiring across multiple states or countries.
- Exposure to supporting a large hourly or warehouse workforce.
Skills & tools
- Talent strategy and workforce planning
- HR operations and process design
- Leadership coaching and development
- Recruiting and sourcing leadership
- Compensation design and benchmarking
- Performance management systems
- People analytics and reporting
Practical notes
- This is a hands-on builder role. Expect to set up processes yourself before handing them to the team.
- The role reports to the CLO, so comfort with legal and compliance stakeholders is important.
- Hiring volume is high, so the role carries real pace from the start.
- On-site presence in Ventura is required.
Project highlights
The defining work of the first year is building the function. You will put in place the department structure, launch recruiting at scale, stand up performance and compensation programs, and establish the operating rhythm the team follows from then on. Success means a People function that keeps quality high while headcount grows, and a team of recruiters, HR business partners, and people operations staff who all know exactly how the department runs.
Why you should apply
This is one of those roles where you get to build a function from a small start at a company growing quickly. If you like creating infrastructure, coaching leaders, and owning outcomes across recruiting, HR, and operations, this role gives you work that is visible across the whole company. Curri is building for the long term, and the VP of People will help set the standard for how the company treats its people as it gets bigger.
