Accounts Receivable Specialist
CurriRemote (USA)Full Time2w ago
Job description
About the role
Curri is looking for an Accounts Receivable Specialist to join the finance team and help bring cash collection and billing management up to speed as the company continues to grow. The role exists because these functions have not kept pace with the company's expansion, and closing that gap is essential for improving working capital efficiency. You will take full ownership of customer account billing and collections from start to finish, collaborating closely with the VP of Finance and the broader finance group to keep AR aging in good shape and drive DSO lower. This is a hands-on position where your work directly affects the company's financial health.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Take responsibility for the full billing-to-cash cycle across a set of customer accounts, handling everything from creating invoices to resolving payments.
- Keep a close eye on AR aging reports and reach out to customers with overdue balances before those balances turn into serious collection problems.
- Communicate directly with customers by phone, email, and video calls to work through outstanding balances and bring accounts current.
- Coordinate with Customer Success and Sales teams to remove friction from payment processes and make billing smoother for everyone involved.
- Help improve invoicing workflows, especially for recurring revenue setups like SaaS subscriptions and usage-based billing arrangements.
- Dig into customer billing systems to find and fix account-level discrepancies that cause payment delays or confusion.
- Build and maintain simple Excel-based reports that track aging trends and help the finance team make decisions about collection priorities.
- Work with the VP of Finance to set up processes that keep overdue balances from slipping through without attention.
- Identify patterns in late payments and suggest changes to billing terms or communication timing that reduce collection risk.
- Support month-end close activities related to accounts receivable, including reconciling balances and preparing aging summaries.
Requirements
- Two to four years of hands-on experience in accounts receivable, collections, or billing, with a proven record of managing a customer account portfolio.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel, including the ability to build aging trackers, reconcile account balances, and generate basic reports independently.
- A highly organized approach to work that keeps a full book of accounts under control without letting overdue items go unnoticed.
- A preference for picking up the phone rather than sending another email when a call will resolve an issue more quickly, with professional communication across all channels.
- The ability to stay calm and clear-headed under pressure, especially when dealing with overdue accounts or conflicting priorities.
- Clear, direct communication style that fits well in a small, close-knit finance team where everyone wears multiple hats.
- Familiarity with accounting principles related to revenue recognition and the ability to apply them consistently in daily AR tasks.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new billing systems and processes as Curri's finance operations continue to evolve.
Nice to have
- Previous experience working in a technology company or startup environment, where pace and adaptability matter.
- Familiarity with billing or collecting for recurring revenue models such as SaaS subscriptions or usage-based pricing structures.
- A track record of noticing inefficiencies in billing or collections workflows and taking the initiative to propose and implement improvements.
- Comfort with a wide range of customer account management tools and billing platforms used in modern finance operations.
Skills & tools
- Microsoft Excel for tracking aging balances, reconciling accounts, and building dashboards and reports.
- Customer relationship management platforms for managing account histories and communication logs.
- Billing and invoicing software used to generate and send customer invoices and track payment status.
- Video conferencing and phone systems for direct customer communication and dispute resolution.
- Accounting software for general ledger reconciliation and accounts receivable reporting.
- Collaboration tools used by remote finance teams to share updates and coordinate with cross-functional partners.
Practical notes
- This role is fully remote, though Curri prefers candidates who can be based near or visit the Ventura, CA office from time to time.
- You will have real ownership of a customer account portfolio from your first day, with the chance to expand your scope as you demonstrate strong fundamentals.
- The finance team at Curri works directly with engineers who can help improve AR processes and tooling, which is uncommon for an accounting group.
- The company offers competitive pay, equity compensation, and a full benefits package covering health, dental, vision, and a 401K plan.
- Curri was founded in 2018 and is part of the Y Combinator S19 batch, operating out of Ventura, California.
- The company is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
