Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML
Job description
About the role
You will architect and ship production software that powers next-generation AI-assisted engineering capabilities across Crunchyroll's Enterprise Technology initiatives. In this role, you directly own the implementation plans and verification steps for AI coding agents, ensuring their output meets strict standards for correctness, security, and production readiness. You review and take ownership of AI-generated code, tests, and migrations while helping establish repeatable patterns that scale across teams. You will partner closely with product, security, and business stakeholders to turn validated AI-assisted solutions into reusable infrastructure. Your work will focus on designing integration-heavy, data-intensive, and workflow-driven systems that deliver tangible business value. You will track practical delivery metrics such as cycle time, quality, and operational health to guide continuous improvement. Ultimately, you help turn what works into robust patterns that define how Enterprise Technology builds software in the future.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and ship production software for Enterprise Technology initiatives, including services, APIs, data models, user interfaces, integrations, tests, and operational tooling.
- Direct AI coding agents by writing clear specs, acceptance criteria, implementation plans, and verification steps to guide their output.
- Review and own AI-generated code, tests, pull requests, and migrations for correctness, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
- Help establish repeatable AI-assisted engineering practices for Enterprise Technology projects through consistent patterns and standards.
- Design and implement integration-heavy, data-intensive, and workflow-driven systems that support enterprise applications and operational platforms.
- Apply and extend AI-assisted engineering tooling, including coding-agent workflows, repo access patterns, context setup, automated verification, and reusable delivery templates.
- Track practical delivery metrics such as cycle time, quality, rework, test coverage, cost, adoption, and operational health to inform decisions.
- Partner with Product, Security, business stakeholders, and Enterprise Technology teams to deliver secure, maintainable software that meets business needs.
- Improve testing, review, observability, documentation, and operational practices for AI-assisted delivery to increase reliability and efficiency.
Requirements
- Bring 12+ years of experience building and shipping production software as a hands-on engineer, senior IC, technical lead, or Staff-level contributor.
- Demonstrate strong production experience with Python and/or TypeScript across backend, frontend, data, API, or cloud-native systems.
- Show hands-on experience using AI coding agents or tools such as Claude Code, Google Antigravity, Codex, Cursor, or similar systems in real-world scenarios.
- Exercise strong engineering judgment when reviewing AI-generated code and determining where human oversight is essential.
- Have experience building or integrating services, APIs, relational data stores, event-driven systems, and user-facing workflows.
- Be familiar with cloud-native development, preferably on GCP, including CI/CD, monitoring, security scanning, and cost-aware engineering practices.
- Understand secure engineering practices deeply, including role-based access, SSO, audit logging, and controls for enterprise systems.
- Possess the ability to influence technical decisions, mentor engineers, and raise quality across a significant system or project area.
- Communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms with engineering and non-engineering stakeholders to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
Nice to have
- Bring experience with enterprise systems, business applications, workflow platforms, data platforms, or internal tools that improve delivery at scale.
- Have background with media, streaming, content platforms, or complex business models that involve multi-stakeholder workflows.
- Contribute experience in observability, monitoring, or reliability practices within high-traffic, distributed systems.
- Show familiarity with AI infrastructure, model serving, or MLOps patterns that support scalable and secure deployments.
- Demonstrate involvement in open source projects or internal tooling that accelerates development and standardizes best practices.
- Highlight experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in regulated or high-compliance environments where documentation and auditability are critical.
Practical notes
- This role is based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, and requires availability during standard working hours as defined by the team.
