Senior Creative Engineer
Job description
About the role
This position leads digital design and creative production at scale for Critical Mass. You translate campaign concepts into production-ready digital assets while partnering with creatives and upholding brand integrity.
Software engineers turn product ideas into working code. Engineers work in small teams, review each other's work, and ship in small batches. Most teams follow agile practices such as sprints and daily standups. Engineers also write tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. The field values clear communication as much as technical skill. Engineers spend part of every week on planning, code review, and debugging, not just writing new code. The ability to explain a technical decision in plain words separates strong engineers from the rest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design systems and scalable templates are created and maintained to support high-volume creative production and enable consistent output. Teams streamline systems, templates, automation, and creative production workflows by introducing improvements that increase efficiency. Workflows and template guides are documented to clarify production systems and communicate design standards clearly. Professionals adapt quickly to new tools and refine production processes as methodologies evolve.
Requirements
Candidates bring 3-5 years of experience as a Production Designer, Designer, Motion Designer, or Creative Engineer in agency, production, or design environments to build relevant context. Professionals operate effectively within high-volume, high-scale creative production workflows to meet volume demands. Design systems, templates, and scalable creative assets are built and maintained to support consistent and efficient production pipelines. Adobe Creative Suite is mastered, with particular expertise in After Effects for motion design to handle complex animations. Strong motion design and animation capabilities are demonstrated through portfolio work and execution. Figma is used proficiently, with Sketch experience treated as a complementary skill for interface workflows. Creative automation platforms such as Celtra or Orca Plus are learned when required to meet technical production needs. Keynote and PowerPoint presentations are created and edited to communicate concepts and progress clearly. Collaboration is directed by a mindset focused on mentoring and developing junior teammates to elevate overall capability. Pixel-perfect attention to detail is ensured, and rigorous quality assurance is applied to all deliverables. Layout production, image optimization, static and animated digital advertising, email production, and visual guidelines are handled comprehensively to meet objectives. HTML5 fundamentals are understood to support communication with engineering partners. Problems are solved flexibly by adopting new tools and evolving processes rapidly to keep pace with change.
Nice to have
Years of experience align with the 5+ range to ensure readiness for complex production.
Practical notes
This role may involve travel. Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Digital production roles blend design and engineering thinking to manage high-volume workflows. Teams depend on design systems and scalable templates to maintain consistency and efficiency. Motion graphics require timing, storytelling, and software proficiency to achieve impact. Creative automation platforms help maintain consistency when handling large campaign volumes. Clear documentation supports smooth handoffs and long-term quality of assets. Staying current with tools and industry trends sustains relevance in fast-paced creative environments.
