Forward Deployed Engineer, Infrastructure Specialist
Job description
About the role
You will own the full lifecycle of deploying North into enterprise environments, acting as the primary technical partner for clients during critical implementation phases. You will design and execute infrastructure strategies that meet strict security and compliance requirements while ensuring optimal performance and reliability. You will collaborate directly with enterprise IT and security teams to resolve complex deployment challenges and validate architectural decisions. You will serve as the trusted voice of Cohere on-site, translating product capabilities into concrete, working solutions for high-stakes industries. You will experiment with new deployment patterns and configurations to drive velocity without sacrificing the quality or stability of our platform. You will document every step of the deployment process to create reusable playbooks and institutional knowledge. You will mentor client engineering teams on best practices for operating AI infrastructure in secure environments. You are accountable for the success of each engagement, ensuring that our clients view Cohere as a strategic and reliable partner in their digital transformation.

Partner with enterprise IT and security teams to conduct infrastructure assessments, define security controls, and document data management practices for regulated industries.
Design and implement scalable deployment architectures that align with client network segmentation, identity management, and compliance frameworks.
Conduct high-velocity experiments in staging environments to validate configurations, performance baselines, and failure modes before production rollout.
Translate complex technical requirements into clear implementation plans that non-technical stakeholders can understand and approve.
Troubleshoot intricate deployment failures related to networking, storage, or compute resources, coordinating with internal product teams when necessary.
Implement monitoring and observability strategies to ensure operational health and rapid detection of anomalies in deployed environments.
Develop and maintain detailed runbooks and playbooks that standardize deployment procedures and reduce variability across engagements.
Perform on-call responsibilities for critical deployments, ensuring rapid response to incidents that could impact customer operations.
