Senior Full-Stack Engineer, North Tools & Retrieval
Job description
About the role
You will design, build, ship, and maintain the full stack of features that let enterprises ingest, structure, and interact with their data inside North. You will own the entire lifecycle of data abstractions, from the API contracts and database schemas to the agent extensibility framework and the sync pipelines that connect external sources. You will collaborate with product and modeling partners to prototype fast, validate requirements, and iterate based on real user impact. You will write minimal, secure code that runs in constrained environments and sometimes avoid popular libraries to meet privacy and deployment standards. You will raise the engineering bar by establishing patterns, rigorous testing discipline, and thoughtful code reviews. You will use AI actively in your work while staying accountable for the quality, reliability, and security of what you ship. You will think like a product owner, asking whether we should build something before deciding how to build it.
Key facts
What you'll do
Implement large-scale file upload and management systems that handle complex enterprise formats at high throughput.
Design shared knowledge bases with flexible schemas that enable secure storage, querying, and collaboration across teams.
Build the agent extensibility framework, including skills and integrations, that allow North agents to interact with third-party services safely.
Own the data-sync pipeline that connects on-premises and cloud enterprise data sources into North's platform with reliability and low latency.
Collaborate with product and UX to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete technical designs and prototypes.
Partner with the modeling team to ensure retrieval and agent workflows are performant, observable, and aligned with user needs.
Write production-grade code that operates in low-resource environments while adhering to strict security and privacy constraints.
Define and maintain testing strategies, code review standards, and architectural patterns that raise the bar for the entire team.
Mentor engineers across the team by sharing knowledge, improving code quality, and driving best practices.
Use AI tools in your daily workflow to accelerate development while validating outputs and maintaining accountability for shipped features.
Continuously measure the impact of your features, using metrics and user feedback to guide improvements and refinements.
Adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment by owning problems end-to-end and delivering reliable solutions.
Engage with security and compliance constraints early in the design process to ensure enterprise readiness of new capabilities.
Champion engineering excellence by improving documentation, observability, and the developer experience for your features.
Requirements
Have shipped (lots of) fullstack code in production, with demonstrable experience in Python and React.
Excel in fast-paced environments and maintain execution quality even when priorities and objectives are in motion.
Possess strong coding abilities and comfort working across the entire stack, from backend services to frontend interfaces.
Have built and deployed extremely performant client-side or server-side RAG or agentic applications that scale to millions of users.
Think like a product owner, evaluating whether a feature should be built before determining the optimal implementation approach.
Have strong opinions on user experience and confidently challenge designs or specifications that do not serve the end user.
Have owned features end-to-end, covering discovery, implementation, launch, and measurement of real-world impact.
Be comfortable making technical tradeoffs under constraints of security, privacy, performance, and delivery timelines.
Nice to have
Experience contributing to open source projects relevant to data, retrieval, or agent systems.
Background working with enterprise customers to understand complex workflows and compliance requirements.
Familiarity with AI platform products and MLOps practices in production environments.
Practical notes
This role is full_time and can be based remotely or from one of our office locations in Europe, with no minimum in-office requirement. Candidates must align with the listed location and core time zone expectations detailed in the posting.
