MEP Superintendent - Data Center/Mission Critical

About the role

The MEP Superintendent will operate directly within the field environment of demanding commercial and mission critical/data center projects. This role requires ownership of daily field operations specifically for MEP trades on complex technical projects. The superintendent will act as the primary on-site leader for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation activities. They will ensure that all work adheres strictly to the project drawings, specifications, and stringent schedules. This position demands proactive problem solving to maintain progress and resolve conflicts in real-time. The role involves close collaboration with engineering, quality control, and site safety personnel on a daily basis. Success in this position is measured by the safe, on-time, and high-quality completion of assigned scope.

What you'll do

Coordinates MEP installation activities closely with the project superintendent and project manager to formulate and finalize the overall operational plan.

Manages the day-to-day performance of MEP crafts and subcontractors in the field, directing work through foreman and subcontractor representatives.

Maintains continuous communication with engineering, quality control, and safety teams to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and schedule.

Reviews detailed plans, job budgets, and estimates to clarify quantities, values, manpower needs, and delivery timelines for all MEP divisions.

Drives schedule development and participates in logic reviews, focusing on generating and implementing short-term look-ahead schedules during weekly subcontractor meetings.

Prepares receiving, storage, and material handling procedures at the start of the job to ensure efficient logistics for MEP components.

Identifies and assists in resolving construction problems such as low productivity or work interface conflicts affecting MEP trades.

Cultivates a cooperative relationship with the project owner and other key partners to support a unified project environment.

Performs additional assignments as directed by the project superintendent or senior management.

Documents and reports on MEP specific conditions, including safety hazards, quality issues, and schedule impacts.

Ensures all MEP installation activities adhere to company standards, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.

Promotes a culture of safety by enforcing strict protocols for work in confined spaces and at extreme heights.

Monitors MEP material deliveries and coordinates with other trades to prevent workflow interruptions.

Supports the implementation of quality control measures specific to data center and mission critical mechanical systems.

Requirements

Possesses a high school diploma or GED certificate, as this is the minimum educational requirement for the role.

Has accumulated a minimum of four years of experience in the construction industry, specifically working as a foreman or assistant superintendent.

Demonstrates the physical ability to crawl, climb, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, crouch, and stand for extended periods.

Can lift and hold more than 50 pounds safely while performing job duties in the field.

Maintains the capability to talk and hear clearly to communicate effectively with crew members and management.

Is prepared to work in construction settings that involve exposure to hot, cold, humid, and wet conditions depending on location.

Must hold the ability to work full-time with a schedule that requires significant presence on active construction floors.

Accepts the requirement to travel domestically as needed for various project assignments across different locations.

Understands that the role involves working in confined spaces or at extreme heights while conducting tasks safely.

Complies with all company policies, safety protocols, and contractual obligations inherent to the position.

Nice to have

Four-year degree in engineering or construction management, which is preferred for this position.

Possesses four years of progressive experience in the construction industry, particularly in data center or mission critical environments.

Familiarity with MEP systems specific to commercial and high-tech facility requirements.

Knowledge of current technologies and standards relevant to data center infrastructure.

Experience utilizing short-term look-ahead schedules and conducting weekly subcontractor meetings.

Skills in resolving complex construction interfaces related to mechanical and electrical systems.

Ability to develop a spirit of cooperation with owners and other project partners.

Practical notes

This position requires full-time commitment with domestic travel to multiple job sites as needed.

Work is performed in a construction setting which may include confined spaces and extreme heights.

Personnel must be able to withstand varying environmental conditions including hot, cold, humid, and wet settings.

The role reports directly to the Project Superintendent and Senior Project Manager within the organizational structure.
