After School Instructional/Canteen Assistant

What you'll do

Provide flexible support across a diverse range of school sites and nonprofit locations as assigned.

Assume responsibility for supervising students in a group care setting, ensuring a secure and orderly environment.

Assist in the planning and execution of academic activities that reinforce after school educational objectives.

Support the planning, preparation, and service of meals within the school canteen or food service area.

Maintain a clean and organized workspace in both the instructional area and the food service location.

Build positive relationships with students, staff, and school site coordinators through professional communication.

Adapt to the varying needs of different school districts within your assigned geographical region or hive.

Transport and set up necessary instructional materials and food service supplies between classrooms and service areas.

Monitor student behavior and intervene appropriately to support behavioral growth and safety protocols.

Demonstrate reliability by adhering to schedule changes and assignment details delivered through the BrightBee platform.

Uphold all health and safety standards related to food handling and student care during every shift.

Collaborate with lead teachers and site coordinators to align support with specific classroom or program goals.

Utilize the BrightBee mobile application to efficiently claim, manage, and report on your assignments.

Serve as a positive role model who embodies patience, respect, and a strong work ethic.

Contribute to the overall mission of the school by supporting both academic success and student wellness.

Requirements

Possess a High School diploma or equivalent certificate.

Have at least 6 months of documented experience working with youth in a school or care setting.

Be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship requirements for this role.

Be at least 18 years of age to independently transport to and from school sites.

Be able to pass a comprehensive background check without disqualifying findings.

Complete a Livescan fingerprinting process as required by state regulations for school access.

Provide authorization for BrightBee to request and review records from prior employers.

Obtain a current Mandated Reporter certification if required by the state of South Carolina.

Be willing to cover the costs associated with obtaining necessary clearances and training.

Demonstrate the physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds safely and consistently.

Maintain the stamina to stand for extended periods while performing instructional or service duties.

Comply with all school district policies regarding communication, confidentiality, and student safety.

Adhere to the BrightBee code of conduct and all mandated reporting obligations without exception.

Nice to have

Previous experience in a cafeteria, food service, or nutrition support role.

Familiarity with the layout of school campuses in the Beaufort or Lowcountry area.

Experience managing inventory or basic stock rotation for food supplies.

Skills in de-escalation techniques when working with children or adolescents.

Understanding of behavioral intervention plans or Individualized Education Program (IEP) strategies.

Practical notes

Engagement is scheduled for 5 days per week.

Shifts occur during after school day hours, specifically from 2pm to 6pm.

Assignments are available within the Beaufort Hive, which covers multiple school districts and sites.

You must be willing to commute to various school locations in the Bluffton and surrounding Lowcountry regions.

This is a contract position classified as 1099, and specific tax documentation will be required.
